Blown away by this saw! It has allowed me to make cuts on site that i couldn't do in the workshop. Dust extraction is excellent, the first time i joined the guide rails together there was a bit of a bump at the join, but that hasn't happened since. Even when joined, the rails guide the saw perfectly straight. Not totally chip free in melamine, best results come from scoring first and then dropping the blade about 15mm below the 'good side'. Only improvement dewalt could make would be to to make the long end of the allen key in the handle fit the guide rail joining bar too, (i'm always looking for a h3 bit). Lack of variety of dewalt blades is disappointing but other manufacturers have blades that fit and i've ripped 2" oak with this saw and a z28 blade with ease and perfectly straight. Expensive yes, but paid for itself already.

its not common for people to sing christmas songs in the month of june, but today i did exactly that as i opened up the box to this dewalt saw.
i got the saw, a rail guide and the optional extra's - a pair of clamps.
the 520kr is solid in its build quality, and what really took me by surprise was the weight of it, its surprisingly light.
the track that came with it is aluminium and the first touch of it tells you that it is a quality product.
on to the set up.
the saw is pretty easy to set up ( on hindsight, but is a bit iffy ). its just that trying to follow textless pictures in the quick set-up guide, for me, is a problem. i need proper instructions. and to my dismay i did not get that from the main booklet either. but thank god for youtube, where you'll find loads of video's from the actual manufacturer.
and, upon first use, you need to cut the rubber edging. i suggest a depth of 16mm and cutting speed of 4.5. and let the saw plunge gently into the rubber guide.
the motor, at first, seems to be a bit jerky but i think its because there is a soft start and gradually building up speed can be like a train, slow, loud and not at all pretty.
but having said that, the motor is brand new and the bushes will take time bedding in correctly.
my first cut of wood was spruce ply, and i cut against the grain to check for what kind of cut quality i could get.
to say im shocked is an understatement.
its cuts far better and cleaner than my table saw. and that has a fine 60 tooth blade installed. shock !!
great cut quality. perfect for veneered ply or mdf.
easy to use.
accurate as hell.
great cut quality. even against the grain.
no blow out ( none in my test )
clamp system is excellent.
the price for the saw and rail is good value.
as always, optional extra's.
clamps are optional extra.
cost of clamps are ridiculous.
clamps are really needed !!!!
fiddly set up.
the first 4 inches of the track cannot be us
