Bulb Planters & Dibbers

What you need to know about Bulb Planters & Dibbers

Bulb Planters & Dibbers are implements used for planting bulbs & seeds at depth beneath the soil. They're quicker to use than a Trowel, & allow for more precise & accurate placement than spreading seas by hand or with Seeders.

Dibbers are very simple tools consisting of a T shaped handle & a pointed head. The Dibber is pushed into the soil to create an aperture for seeds or small bulbs to be dropped into. After seeding, a Soil Rake can be used to brush soil back into the planting holes. If working in hard, dry or compacted soil, look for a well made dibber with a metal point. Also, if you need to plant at a specific depth, look for one with depth gauge markings to help you do this.

Bulb Planters will be preferred for planting larger bulbs. A short conical metal shaft, with a graspable handle at one end & a set of teeth at the other, can be screwed into the soil prior to planting. Lifting the Bulb Planter will lift the section of soil inside the shaft away too, creating a hole into which a bulb can be planted. You can then grip the Bulb Planter's handle to release the soil back over the bulb. Bulb planters therefore have the advantage over Dibbers of not requiring the soil to be raked back into place after planting.
