What you need to know about Carpet Cleaners
Carpet Cleaners are appliances that use a spray extraction process to clean carpets, & in the case of smaller models, furniture, car interiors & upholstery. Spray extraction involves pushing or rolling the carpet cleaner over a surface, coating the fibres beneath with a mixed solution of Cleaning Product
& water. Over a short period, the cleaning solution releases any dirt or grime in the material. The Carpet Cleaner can then be moved back over the wet surface, drawing in the released grime & residual fluid through vacuum suction. Carpet & Upholstery Cleaners
closely resemble Canister Vacuum Cleaners. The cleaning head is attached by a flexible hose to a separate, wheeled unit containing the motor & the fluid tank - the latter also doubling as the collection tank for the extraction intake. The head is relatively light, & can be pushed over carpets or lifted to clean raised or vertical surfaces.
Heavier, fully integrated models, referred to as Upright Carpet Cleaners
, are wheeled from behind & cannot be lifted. They have larger tanks & spray/suction heads than Carpet & Upholstery Cleaners, enabling them to cover areas at least four times greater in size. A rotating brush roll in the head dislodges debris, & therefore cleans particularly dirty surfaces more thoroughly.
Generally speaking, Upright Carpet Cleaners will be preferred for cleaning large buildings such as schools or airports, whereas Carpet & Upholstery Cleaners will be more suitable for environments in which flexibility & portability are priorities, such as hotels, offices or around the home.
Maintaining your Carpet Cleaner
Carpet Cleaner water tanks will need to be emptied out after use. Remove any residual muck or grime before adding fresh water. Brush Rolls on Upright Carpet Cleaners require cleaning after a while, to get rid of entangled hairs & other debris. They can be removed & cleaned by hand or with a pair of scissors.
