Die Grinders

Die Grinders Information

A die grinder is also commonly known as a straight grinder although that term is also used for a larger class of machine (which can be found in a separate category of our website). What separates die grinders from the larger straight grinders (as well as size) is the tool holder, which on a die grinder is typically a collet. A collet is a type of chuck which only accepts a small range of compatible accessories but which offers superior clamping force and ensures high stability under load. This means die grinders are used with shanked accessories like flap wheels and grinding stones, and are commonly used for grinding in tight spaces or where extra precision is required. The long nose of a die grinder means it can access the inside of pipes and other recessed workspaces; with a suitable grinding stone installed, it is also commonly used for enlarging small holes.

Here's our quick application guide:

• Corded Die Grinders – the most common type of die grinder, these machines offer excellent power, high speed and unlimited runtime.
• Cordless Die Grinders - these highly portable tools can be used anywhere, making them a versatile option for large workshops and jobsite applications, though they are usually less powerful than corded variants.

Jobs that can be undertaken with a die grinder:

  • Grinding metal
  • Sanding metal
  • Polishing metal
  • Carving metal
  • Enlarging holes
  • Grinding inside holes
  • Removing rust
  • Removing paint
  • De-burring
  • Sharpening
  • Sanding wood
  • Carving wood

Die grinder safety:

Die grinders are powerful, high speed machines and suitable eye, ear and respiratory protection should be worn when using them.
