Log Splitters

Log Splitters Information

Log splitters are designed for breaking logs down into manageable pieces so that they can be stored easily and used as firewood. They offer a much safer and less physically demanding alternative to a handheld splitting axe, and come in a variety of sizes and types. Whether you are not confident in your abilities to use an axe, or have a large quantity of wood to be processed, the right log splitter can ensure you get the job done quickly and easily. You can usually gauge the capabilities of a log splitter by checking the stated splitting force if stated (typically a value between 1 and 8 tonnes).

Here's our quick application guide:

• Manual Log Splitters – Whether operated by hand like the best selling Logosol Smart Splitter, or using a foot plate to drive logs onto a splitting wedge, manual log splitters are usually cheap and reliable. However they can not match electric, petrol or hydraulic machines for power and so may not be ideal if you have a large volume of logs to work through.
• Hydraulic Log Splitters – hydraulic splitters also have to be operated manually (typically with a foot pump); however, thanks to their hydraulic action, they are capable of generating much higher splitting forces.
• Corded Electric Log Splitters - although they are reliant on an electric supply being available, electric log splitters do all the work themselves, meaning they can be a very appealing choice for splitting large volumes of logs. They tend to be less powerful than petrol log splitters but are much more convenient to use and maintain.
• Petrol Log Splitters - If you are working in a remote location and have a lot of logs to split, a petrol machine may well be the ideal choice. They are high powered and will split large volumes of material easily, but using fuel does have a few disadvantages; it is noisy, creates harmful emissions, and must be stored and transported safely.

Log splitter safety:

To protect yourself against airborne debris, eye protection should be worn when operating a log splitter, and steel toe cap boots will protect your feet in the event that a log or large piece of debris is dislodged from the machine. It is a good idea to wear gloves when handling logs and similar garden waste. Note that petrol machines should never be used indoors, and electric machines should not be used in wet conditions.
