Secateurs

What you need to know about Secateurs

Secateurs are small handheld tools used for the severing of narrow branches & stems, either for pruning purposes or for the taking of cuttings for replanting. There are two types of Secateur: Bypass Secateurs (see left) & Anvil Secateurs (see right). Bypass Secateurs work much like a pair of scissors, with one blade passing alongside the other as the Handles are squeezed together. With Anvil Secateurs, squeezing the handles brings a single blade into contact with a flatter opposing surface, severing any stems or branches that are trapped between. Bypass Secateurs give a cleaner, more precise cut, making them more suitable for cutting branches close to the main stem to prevent regrowth, & for taking cuttings. Anvil Secateurs, on the other hand, are better able to deal with tougher, thicker branches.
