Additional information regarding Laser Distance Measurers
Laser measures are extremely accurate. They are ideal for indoor or outdoor use, however use outdoors may require the user to use laser googles to enhance spotting of the laser in bright sunlight or for distances over around 40 metres.

If using for measurements over 40-50 metres outside it is advisable to buy a model with an optical or digital viewfinder as the laser is often unable to be seen over 30 metres (40 if using light enhancing glasses) in natural light.

Please also note that lower end models do not usually come with any weather protection and can fail to function if exposed to water or moisture whereas models with IP54 have some form of weather protection. Many enhanced models offer added functions that enable angles, room dimensions and volumes to be calculated.

They are ideal for estate agents, building, construction industry and any other application that requires fast accurate measurements.

A rough guide to models by trade is shown below:

DIY, Estate Agents & Tradesman etc where mainly just straight forward in-door measuring is required:
Bosch PLR 25, Bosch PLR 50, Bosch DLE 40, Bosch DLE 70, DeWalt DW030, Leica D2 & Skil Xact.

Electricians, General Builders, Plumbers, Planners & Roofers etc where in-door and out-door measuring & calculations are required:
Bosch DLE 40, Bosch DLE 70, Bosch GLM 150, DeWalt DW030, Leica D2 & Leica D3.

Architects, Surveyors, Planners and Construction etc where high level measuring & calculations are required.
Bosch DLE 150, Bosch DLE 150 Connect, Bosch, Bosch GLM 250VF, Bosch GLM 150 & Leica D3.

I bought this laser measuring device to assist me in measuring up industrial buildings for quoting pipework installation jobs. Also to assess the internal height of buildings when deciding on the size of access equipment required. i have found this device to be really helpful in these tasks and saves a lot of time with a tape measure. the laser is very bright and i have never yet had a problem seeing the red dot. at first i was concerned as the device has an internal battery that needed to be charged up via a usb cable, but it does seem to hold its charge well, so my fears were unfounded. it is well worth the money. the build quality is what i have come to expect from bosch products, excellent.

An invaluable tool that speeds up jobs where lots of measurements are required. Similar size to a mobile phone, lighter and smaller than a tape measure, and easier to use when working alone.

Got one of these delivered yesterday to replace a dle150 which had been dropped once too often. The device is tiny in comparison, whether is this a good thing or not remains to be seen. Anyway, been having a play about with it in the office to familiarise myself before taking it out on a job. The basic 'point and shoot' measuring is just what you would expect (quicker, more accurate, longer distances, one man job, etc compared to a tape). I was more keen though to see just how accurately the inclinometer would function, and how that would tranlate in resolving vertical sizes. what i found is that (once the quite straightforward calbration process is done) indirect measurement, both horizontally and vertically, is reasonably accurate, say +/- 5mm/m (or more like 1 or 2mm/m when using the timer function as this lets you hold the device still while it measures), this is providing that there is something solid to hold the device against. i found it very difficult to get reliable double indirect height measurement 'freehand'. Holding the device steady and ensuring that it is measuring from the same reference point height for both clicks is very difficult (something like +/-20mm/m). however with the device on a tripod, double indirect heights are as accurate as single indirect measurement, this would mean lugging a tripod around though. A monopod might be a better compromise? it also seems to help accuracy if the unit is 'barrel rolled' about 45degrees while measuring, i assume this may have something to do with the inclinometers on both axis being read?? i'm actually quite glad to see it has the li ion battery, being able to charge in-car or from usb will be handy. btw the headline about it knowing more geometry than you is true, unless you happen to have a head full of trig tables!
