Q : I bought this Kit last week. I ran the Tap through my Sump Drain and in so doing, cut a new Thread. So far so good. However, when I came to fit one of the Bolts and Washers provided in the Kit, not so good. The washer was somehow elongated so didn't provide a Seal. I substituted a Copper Washer of the same Gauge and size which stayed the correct shape but the Bolt will not Tighten up. I have tried 3 of the Bolts provided in the kit and the only way they get to anything close to the correct tension is by leaving the washer off! I have just tried again and the Tread has stripped before the Bolt was properly Tight! I am now in a position where I will need to fit a Helicoil. The original Drain Bolt is a 14M Thread with I think 1.25 Pitch not sure on that. The Plug is on a Suzuki Motorcycle where there is no Sump-Pan: the Sump is a One piece casting and cannot be removed without completely stripping the Engine! Can you provide a Helicoil which can be fitted without having to strip the engine? I know of a KIt which is available to do this without drilling but the Tap is designed to fit a 14M Opening not a 15M one so that is not an option anymore! Your thoughts would be much appreciated. I will add that I have been Riding and Maintaining Motorbikes for over 40 Years and not had this problem before!
A : Hi Chris, I've had a look through our thread repair tools and I can't see anything that stands out as being suitable for the operation you suggest, although I'm by no means a motorcycle mechanic and there may be solutions on the market that I'm not familiar with. We stock Recoil threading kits and they have a fairly big catalogue so it might be worth giving them a try to see if they have any recommendations? You can speak to them directly if you call 08000198180 and they will hopefully be able to impart some more specialist knowledge on the subject.
