Black & Decker GW3050 Garden Vacuum & Leaf Blower
There are three main types of leaf blowers – Petrol, corded electric and cordless electric. As a general rule, Petrol blowers offer the most power at the expense of being heavier and noisier and than their electric counterparts, and typically come at a higher price.
Electric blowers are much quieter and more suitable for residential areas, and are usually powered by either lithium ion battery packs, or mains electricity.
Corded variants are cheaper to manufacture as they don’t require batteries or chargers, though their obvious limitation is the length of cord they are attached to.
Cordless variants offer much more freedom, though the amount of time they can be used for is dependent on the charge in their batteries. Higher amp-hour (ah) batteries will offer the most runtime, while higher voltage machines will provide more power.
Leaf blowers can also be effective at clearing snow, dust and dirt; however please bear in mind they are not designed to shift piles of wet leaves and much better results can be obtained by waiting for these to dry out first.

Wrong time of year for heavy use, but I ran through a few bags of leaves and it performed well. Tube being narrower than my last unit actually works better with better suction. Bag needs another strap point really to spread the load, we will see how it lasts, the addition of a cable point to tie up the cable for storage is handy. The really odd thing is that the extended “corrugated” tube came in the box, but not the bin cover. I wasn’t expecting that, I may make a bin attachment later on.
I've owned several leaf blowers/vacs/shredders and this is by far and away the best. The key features which set it apart from [most] of the competition are 1. the metal impeller; this shreds even tough stuff like conker shells, minimises jamming and reduces bulk 2. the shoulder strap for the bag makes it pretty light in use 3. the included tube and hood to fill straight into a bin or large sack is a terrific extra feature which isn't even mentioned in the specs: it should be My only gripe is you do have to switch tubes to blow and suck, but in practice one doesn't that very often. However, the mechanism for switching tubes is unnecessarily fiddly and requires you to carry a 'poker' to depress a concealed button. B&D should include a small plastic poker [nothing fancy] which would make all the difference. Overall I am extremely happy I chose this model as my leaf collecting this year has been a breeze compared to past years.
With the metal turbine blade this seems to perform well with the powerful motor. I do see some of the plastic mouldings a bit flimsy but there is a trade off against weight. I will see over time how robust these are. Good news is b&d spares are usually readily availble
Delivery service very efficient and quick. The product is easy to assemble and sturdy in build. I have only used the vacuum, which is excellent, the bag is easy to empty and reduces the amount of leaves dramatically. The noise levels do require ear defenders. Variable speed control is good. Extremely pleased with the product.
Friendly helpful company and good prices too
Build quality good, variable speed control is excellent. Good product.
Good build quality and the feature of the variable speed control is excellent. The bag tends to be a bit sloppy because it has only got one connection to the machine and therefor it flops about a bit during use. On the whole it's a good product
Great item brought to replace old one which was excellent and this is even better would recommend
I bought this as a replacement for another garden vacuum that broke after a few uses. In comparison, this is a solid piece of kit and quite heavy. easy to put together and unlike previous purchase, the blower is separate and can't be used with the vacuum attachment at the same time - not a problem for me as i don't envisage using this function that often. the vacuum is very powerful! I have fairly large garden with lots of trees / bushes and it made short work of sucking up piles of leaves. As mentioned, it is heavier than my previous vacuum so would recommend that you attach strap and make use of it. overall happy with the purchase.
Customer Questions & Answers
Q : This leaf vac is pictured with a corrugated hose to extend the bag to a dustbin. Does this come with the product, or can I buy it separately? I've looked everywhere and it doesn't seem to exist!
A : I can confirm we no longer stock the corrugated hose to extend the bag to the dustbin as we have been advised this is no longer available in the United Kingdom.
