Battery AH Explained
The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.
Battery Voltage Explained
A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.
There are three main types of leaf blowers – Petrol, corded electric and cordless electric. As a general rule, Petrol blowers offer the most power at the expense of being heavier and noisier and than their electric counterparts, and typically come at a higher price.
Electric blowers are much quieter and more suitable for residential areas, and are usually powered by either lithium ion battery packs, or mains electricity.
Corded variants are cheaper to manufacture as they don’t require batteries or chargers, though their obvious limitation is the length of cord they are attached to.
Cordless variants offer much more freedom, though the amount of time they can be used for is dependent on the charge in their batteries. Higher amp-hour (ah) batteries will offer the most runtime, while higher voltage machines will provide more power.
Leaf blowers can also be effective at clearing snow, dust and dirt; however please bear in mind they are not designed to shift piles of wet leaves and much better results can be obtained by waiting for these to dry out first.

Superb for small dry leaves (beech) on vacuum, not used blow.
Works well and is easy to use, a little awkward to empty but not too difficult.
The Balck and Decker GWC3600L 36v is a light weight cordless vacuum & leaf blower which also shreds. It can be used with one hand easily. To use it as a vacuum you fit the vacuum pipe and bag. To use it as a blower you remove the bag and fit a blower pipe and nozzle in its place. You also have to fit a ventilated unit where the vacuum pipe would be. All very simple. The shredder works well and the bag is sufficient for most light jobs. The nozzles can get into quite awkward nooks and crannies. I have a small garden at the front and back of the house. Even so I have bought a spare battery as it will just about last if on 'turbo' mode. The charger works well and the indicators on the battery showing battery life are worthwhile. Yes, it does get blocked from time to time especially if the leaves are large or wet. Turn it off. Remove the battery. Take the bag off, loosen the wedged detritus. Refit battery and blow it out. Dry leaves are fine. Whatever its drawbacks being cordless it works well for me.
I wanted a leaf blower that would also vacuum leaves off gravel. This does the job and chops the leaves so they can go in the compost.
Having previously bought the matching battery strimmer this was the obvious choice of leaf blower. I didn't fully appreciate the vacuum feature before purchase but it has proved to be very good at mulching smaller leaves. Has difficulty coping with larger, more substantial leaves such as laurel and whitebeam but great with oak, rowan beech etc. Can sometimes get blocked up with these bigger leaves but quite simple to blow them out again. It does manage individual wettish leaves but not so great if the grass is long and needs cut.
Read other reviews and still went ahead, I am glad that I did. Although it can get clogged with larger leaves, it is easy to clear. It is very light weight and much better than the large electric one we had. I am pleased with the battery life and find that I can re-charge very well while I am using the second battery. I am very pleased with the product. I have used it on patios, flower beds and grass and also where I have stone and it has done everything that I expected. Good value and worth buying compared to very expensive mountfield.
Appears to be working well and serving the purpose
Exactly what i wanted from the blower point of view. Would not recommend for the collecting side of things, even with a 36v it does get blocked very easily.
Great tool. So much better than cheaper options. The battery also fits my strimmer and vice versa. Having it cable-free is a huge advantage. I recommend to you.
Very pleased, easy to use and does the job!
This product is light and easy to handle. Very easy to assemble and is very efficient on clearing paved areas. Ideal for small/medium sized gardens. Lawn and soil areas need finishing off with a light raking. But extremely pleased with my purchase.
Excellent quality fantastic product lightweight and easy to set up and use would highly recommend this product.
Brilliant product lightweight and powerful would highly recommend this product
My first garden vac. Read all the crits and decided to spend a bit more. Not disappointed. Half hour to erect carefully by which time the battery was charged. Only sweaty point - taking off the fan cover to connect the vac - the wife sorted it with a bit of positive belief and delicate force! Was expecting a limited performance 1st time but no, got 20 min on turbo vac. it is not over heavy (i am elderly), not complicated and seems robust. I have a lot of shrub roses, lots of dropped petals in a small garden and this will help keep it looking its best. Expect it will do a good job blowing the autumn leaves. for tooled-up, thank you for a good service. Delivered next day timed to the hour.
Disappointed with the power of the blower. Damp leaves just laugh at it...and stay where they are. Good news is that I can use the battery & charger for other B&D tools.
This leaf vacuum/blower was a complete waste of money! I didn't read anything in the advertising that it only worked on dry leaves, although it did say that on the instruction leaflet once i had purchased the item. It is sitting in my shed as the leaves never dry up enough for it to work. I certainly would not recommend it at all. When i asked tooled-up for my money back, they refused as it says it only works on dry leaves.
The power of this unit is inadequate for gathering up big leaves or lots of leaves at ones. I later read reviews saying that it is not the type of garden vacuum that works with wet leaves. A better portable unit would probably be a one with a combustion engine but i like the electric version so i'm going to stick with this one.
Dreadful with wet leaves. machine gets clogged up. stay well clear of this one.
The first time i tried it it was a dry day and it worked really well. the next few times, the leaves were a bit wet and the machine got clogged up where the leaves should be getting mashed up. I had to stop frequently to clear it. i was thinking of sending it back because it does not do what it is supposed to. Not decided if it is worth the hassle. i would not reccommend it.
Customer Questions & Answers
Q : Does this also include a charger for the battery?
A : I can confirm that if you select the kit with a battery and charger it will be supplied with a battery and charger. If you purchase the body only it will be supplied with no battery or charger.
Q : According to some of the customer reviews you maintain that this vac must only be used for dry leaves but there is no mention of this in the Black and Decker manual. What is the correct answer.
A : Wet leaves, in general, are much harder to work with as the additional water makes them heavier and they tend to stick and clump together which means battery-powered machines may struggle to suck them up and due to the water may cause clogging in the tubes and impeller. Petrol powered machines may cope better however they require regular maintenance and servicing and are a lot heavier.
Q : What is the nominal battery back up of the machine for using in garden to collect leafs
A : I can confirm that the only 36v battery currently available for this machine is BL20362 which is a 2ah 36v battery
Q : How long will the battery last using the vacuum on one full charge?
A : I have looked in to this for you and can confirm the battery does not have a certain usage time. The usage will depend on how hard the machine has to work therefore if the machine is sucking up larger items the machine will have to work harder meaning the battery is used more.
