Locking Pliers

Locking Pliers Information

Locking Pliers, also commonly known as vise grips or mole grips, are versatile hand tools that combine the powerful gripping function of a vice with the compact handheld form factor of a pair of pliers. By adjusting the screw at the rear of the tool they can be made to clamp down on whatever is being held in their jaws without the operator having to hold the handles in place (hence the "locking" part of the name) - this lends them to a wide variety of applications and since they were invented in the 1920s the basic design has been subjected to numerous modifications and customizations. These days you can find lots of specialist locking pliers but the most common are the flat jaw, curved jaw and long nose types, along with dedicated clamping variants which you can find in our C Clamps category.
