Customer Questions & Answers

Olivier asked on 05/10/2020

Q : I need to attach a custom hose (not a garden hose) to the outlet. What are the exact specifications of the outlet ?

TooledUp answered on 05/10/2020

A : Ryobi haven't provided these specifications but you may be able to get this information from their technical department

John Richards asked on 23/08/2020

Q : It looks like only one hose is supplied but you need two hoses. Does the second hose need a special adaptor to fit on the pump ? If so where do you buy one and what is it called ? Thanks

TooledUp answered on 24/08/2020

A : Hi John, the R18TP is supplied with a tap connector which enables you to attach a standard garden hose with a hose connector as you would to an outdoor tap

Andrew Corker asked on 05/07/2020

Q : Can you buy replacement hose filter? The iron shaped filter that attaches to the end of the hose? Thanks

TooledUp answered on 06/07/2020

A : Hi Andrew, we're not currently able to supply this as a standard retail item but if you contact Ryobi they should be able to provide this to you as a spare part.

Chris asked on 05/05/2020

Q : Could the pump be used to pump water from a water butt on an allotment allowing me to water with a hosepipe? I currently have to submerge a watering can and essentially hand carry water to the plants.

TooledUp answered on 06/05/2020

A : Hi Chris, the user manual states that the pump should only be used for clearing out flooded areas but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work for that application, as long as the conditions were within its capabilities and it wasn't used continuously.

Damien Neale asked on 01/04/2020

Q : If a tap is added to the outlet would the pump stop when the tap is closed ?

TooledUp answered on 01/04/2020

A : I don't think so, no - the pump is designed to drain a body of water in one go, rather than for semi permanent installations or continuous stop start use. If the pump is overloaded it is designed to shut down, but it then needs to be restarted and I can't imagine it is good for the motor in the long term

Pete asked on 02/03/2020

Q : Could I use this for dirty water? E.g a pond if I kept the inlet out the sludge at the bottom

TooledUp answered on 02/03/2020

A : I suspect that most pondwater will be too dirty for the R18TP as it shouldn't be exposed to particles larger than 2.5mm

Jaycie asked on 11/10/2019

Q : Could I use this to pump water from a drum to fill an ice making machine??

TooledUp answered on 15/10/2019

A : Hi Jaycie, the user manual states that the pump should only be used for clearing out flooded areas but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work for that application, as long as the conditions were within its capabilities and it wasn't used continuously. Note that it wouldn't be suitable for drinking water / food applications though

DENNIS CHAMBERLAIN asked on 18/09/2019

Q : Can this pump be used with saltwater?

TooledUp answered on 23/09/2019

A : Hi Dennis, I asked Ryobi's technical department and they have confirmed it is suitable for use with salt water / sea water. Many thanks

Mark Sherred asked on 17/08/2019

Q : Can you use this as a bulge pump on a boat? The issue being there might be oil or diesel in the water.

TooledUp answered on 19/08/2019

A : Unfortunately, water that contains oil or diesel may cause damage to the pump and would be against the manufacturer's recommendations.
