Screw Extractors

Screw Extractors Information

Screw Extractors are often used when bolts or screws have proved unresponsive to any attempt to unfasten them by other means, commonly because the screw head has become excessively worn or a bolt has sheared inside a hole. To use a screw extractor, a hole must first be drilled into the fastener before wedging the extractor firmly into it. The idea is to get the extractor to bite into the fastener by turning it carefully with a tap wrench, locking pliers or any other suitable tool. If this is successful, the fastener will start to turn with the extractor, and eventually be able to be removed. Note however that screw extractors do not always have a 100% success rate, and the screw or bolt may have to be drilled out if all other methods have failed.
