Really pleased with this. Strong. Well made. It made easy work out of what was potentially a hard job.
I bought this spade in the hope it would be good for digging out pesky docks with their deep roots - it is - just the job. It appears strong and sturdy.
This spade is brilliant for me, being elderly, not very strong, and looking after a very large garden with very heavy soil. It is short and strong so it’s easy to get it deep down into the soil. I can even get under dandelions with it.
An excellent, sturdy small spade, perfect for digging deep planting holes in heavy clay soil. Best price I could find and very quick delivery, too.
Great spade for putting in new plants. Quick and efficient service, will use again.
Purchased for planting bare root hedging whips. A well made tool that does the job.

Customer Questions & Answers
Q : I need to dig a planting hole for a hybrid tea rose bush. This has to be dug deep and I have clay soil. I have dug to a point where the compaction of the clay soil prevents me digging further, but this is not of sufficient depth. Will this particular spade be any better than an ordinary though quality garden spade which was used? Thank you.
A : Hi Marion, as these spades have a smaller point of contact you should be able to push down into the soil with more force, yes - although its hard to say how much easier it will be as it sounds like you've hit some very hard clay! The only other option I can think of is an earth auger or post hole auger which is like a large manual drill bit, but this may not be any easier (and might even be more difficult to be honest, as you have to rotate it by hand)
