Black and Decker BCSTA5362 36v Cordless Grass Trimmer 330mm
Battery AH Explained
The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.
Battery Voltage Explained
A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.

Replacement for current B&D strimmer and this is bigger, heavier and better made although slightly more difficult to use (the increased length hampers manoeuvrability). Uses the existing batteries which are still fine, so bought the bare unit without batteries. This was quite difficult to find but Tooled-Up had the item! Previous strimmer lasted well but now slowly disintegrating. Delivery was slow and tracking hopeless.
After putting up with an old corded Strimmer with a standard cutting reel cord which I had to take off and adjust every few yards I thought I would try a cordless Black and Decker with Auto feed reel. As I have other B&D gear I already had 2 batteries and charger and TOOLED- UP was one of the very few places that offered the Strimmer as a Bare unit at a good price. It's not often I look forward to cutting the grass but with this I even enjoy it. It's so easy to use and fully extendable etc and the head turns for Strimming edges easily. I would recommend this Strimmer to anyone as it's a joy to use and would like to thank TOOLED-UP for there excellent service. I will be using TOOLED-UP for any other equipment I might need in the future.
Good for light domestic use and should last a couple of seasons but the main internal drive shaft and bearings are unreliable and wear very quickly. This is the third machine I’ve had in five years and each one hasn’t lasted more than 15 months. Spend more and go with a more up market manufacturer if you expect heavy duty use from it.
The black and decker 36v strimmer is good but I would not buy from tooled up again. When it was delivered the box was all smashed up and ripped open. It looked like it had been thrown around and no care taken with it whatsoever. I reported this to tooled up and they were not bothered so long as it worked. It might of worked initially but the way it had been treated will not have done it much good.
Bought this to replace my old 30cm model. The new 330cm is heavier more cumbersome to use. The new straight handle means the battery gets in the way of your arm . I sent mine back. Why change a model when it works! The 30cm was perfect for us ladies. I loved it
I have scored this low to discourage you from asking people to review items they have just bought. If you REALLY want a review useful to potential buyers, ask me after the guarantee has expired!
Received the grass trimmer in a damaged state. Cannot evaluate the performance as it had to be sent back. It was the last example, so no idea how well/badly it performs.
This is the third battery operated Strimmer from B&D. They are very good and work well. I really like the ability to rotate the head for edging. This particular model is heavier than the 3630 and less ergonomic to use. For what I use it for I prefer the latter. It does a very good job but I wouldn’t buy this model again for the reasons stated above. It’s probably more heavy-duty than others but uses the same battery so 30 mins per charge limits what you can do with it. 2 batteries are a must for substantial strimming. Not suitable for heavy usage as the drive mechanism becomes worn. But great for tidying up medium size gardens.

Customer Questions & Answers
Q : Can you please advise battery life when selecting this product with the 1 x 2ah Li-ion option. Thanks.
A : Good morning, There are too many different variables to give a definitive answer I am afraid.
Q : I am a groundsman at my local football club. I am presently using edging shears. As you can imagine very time consuming, although gives a good finish. I would like a cordless trimmer for edging but also light trimming features. Looking for good run time and quick re charging. Also looking for good guarantee / warranty. Looking to purchase a cordless Blower /Vac so if features can be interchangeable so much the better.
A : Hi Graham, there are a few things to bear in mind here. There's a good chance that any cordless grass trimmer you're looking at will run on a battery that can also be used in a leaf blower - for instance the Black & Decker BCBLV36 shares battery compatibility with this machine. You can look at the tool range pages on our website to get a good idea what's available in the main battery platforms - however it's worth noting that power tools are usually classed as either professional or domestic. Black + Decker, Bosch Green and Einhell for example all have a domestic warranty, while Makita and DeWalt are guaranteed for professional use. This will usually give you a longer warranty (domestic machines are typically not covered if purchased for a business) plus you can generally get a wider choice of batteries and fast chargers in professional cordless systems, which will help you work more efficiently. They do cost more, but are designed to cope with a heavier work load. Whichever system you choose, when it comes to runtime, larger capacity (ah) batteries will help you work for longer per charge - you could also look for brushless tools which are more energy efficient and don't drain the batteries as quickly.
Q : Hi, which replacement spool and line do I need and where can I get it, I can't seem to see it on this site. I don't need it yet but would like to have one to hand when it runs out. thank you
A : Hi Lisa, the replacement spool for the BCSTA5362 is the A6481 which I've now linked up as an accessory on the product page on our site. It uses the same spool as the previous Black & Decker 36v strimmer (model GLC3630L20 / GLC3630LB)
Q : Hello. Any news about when this strimmer will be in stock please? I am trying to replace my Black and Decker strimmer GLC3630L20. It seems to be unavailable, but I understand that the newer equivalent is the Black and Decker BCSTA5362 36v Cordless Grass Trimmer 330mm. I only need the strimmer - not the battery or charger. My battery and charger (for the broken Black and Decker strimmer GLC3630L20) are fine and I think that they are the same as the battery and charger for the Black and Decker BCSTA5362?
A : Hi Sarah, you're right in that this model uses the same type of battery and charger as the GLC3630L20 so you'd only need the bare tool in order to carry on using your existing equipment. However unfortunately there's a bit of a delay expected for the next batch of these to come into stock. They were pencilled in for October but this has now been pushed back to mid December. This could change depending on circumstances beyond our control but for now we only have stock available of the complete starter kits with battery and charger included.
A : Stop the press! We have actually now got some of these available without battery and charger if you're interested (a bit earlier than expected and while stocks last of course)
Q : Hi - do you have any of the old B&D GLC3630L20 strimmers still in stock please? Want to buy that again, but your site only takes me to the new version, which I don't want given that reviewers comment on the extra weight of it (I have spinal problems).
A : Hi Ruth, I'm afraid we've completely sold out now, which is why it's redirecting to the newer version
Q : Do you know when the bare version without battery is likely to be back in stock?
A : Hi Colin, currently Black & Decker are advising we should expect these around the 4th of October (but this isn't definite yet)
Q : If this one is out of stock. What would you recommend in a similar style and price range but ideally including the battery and charger that can be delivered quickly?
A : Hi Pauline, I'm not sure where you're seeing that it's out of stock but the kit version with battery and charger is available for shipping at the time of writing? Once you've chosen 1x2ah battery and charger it lets you add it to basket, though the bare tool without battery and charger is out of stock. The closest alternative which we always try and keep in stock for immediate shipping is probably the Bosch AdvancedCut 36 which you can find on Product code 21021843K (although it does cost a bit more than the Black & Decker)
Q : What is the difference between this model and the GLC3630L (if any)? After a Google search for the GLC3630L it comes up with a link to your site but only this model appears so not sure why
A : Hi Stuart, as mentioned in a previous response the main functional differences are a slightly wider cutting width and a brushless motor (in this newer model) although they do of course have a noticeably different design as well. However they both use exactly the same batteries and you can use your existing battery and charger if you have other B&D 36v lithium equipment. The GLC3630L has now been delisted so in effect this is a direct replacement for it, especially if you do already have the battery and charger.
Q : Is this lightweight
A : Hi Trudy, I suppose it depends what you consider lightweight but the machine weight is listed in the main description (3.3kg). Cordless grass trimmers these days are generally fairly light and easy to handle, but as with anything you will probably start to get fatigued the longer you are using it for at any one time.
Q : When do you expect Black and Decker BCSTA5362 36v Cordless Grass Trimmer 330mm to be back in stock?
A : Currently Black & Decker are saying the bare tools should be available again on the 23rd of next month (August) but they haven't provided any info for the battery kits at this stage.
