Battery AH Explained
The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.
Battery Voltage Explained
A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.
Bosch PowerForAll
The Bosch PowerForAll Tool range is a range of tools you can buy knowing that batteries are compatible with all tools in the range providing they are of the same voltage. eg 18v fits 18v, 12v (10.8v) fits 12v (10.8v) etc. Please also note that 10.8v is compatible with 12v & vice versa as it is just a name change. Indego Lawnmowers also use the PowerForAll 18v battery but require a cover plate to be removed if changing.
PowerForAll has many advantages not least the fact that once you have a tool with a few batteries then there is no need to buy the more expensive versions with battery & charger, you can just go ahead & buy the much cheaper no battery versions!
So remember PowerForAll signifies complete battery compatibility throughout the range. There is however, one caveat to this, some of the very first older chargers will not charge the very latest batteries & a battery charger upgrade will be required if you have a first generation charger. All batteries fit all tools however.
As of 2021 Bosch has licensed PowerForAll to other manufacturers whereby batteries between these manufacturers will be interchangeable.
Important
You cannot use Bosch Pro (Blue) batteries in either 12v or 18v DIY (Green) products.

Cannot fault the price, delivery or anything. This bosch hedge trimmer was to replace my larger bosch corded model, nothing wrong with it but the hedge gets bigger and I get older. Cordless is a lot lighter but it still has lots of power and does a better job than I expected. Battery life is excellent. Charges fast too.

This hedge trimmer is brilliant. I had a smaller electric one and cut through the cord 3 times and on speaking to others found they've all had similar problems. This cordless model is a dream - light enough for me to use extensively, including high and thick branches, its like slicing through butter - I've gone a bit mad with it actually! I use a lightweight 1.5ah battery from my old Bosch drill (which is brilliant too) and whilst I was expecting to have to re-charge it pretty quickly it just went on and on, just as it does with the drill. Taken away most of the problems in the large garden as I'm 71 with some arthritis in my hands.

This item was purchased by me as a present for my daughter and son in law. They used this at the weekend and was well impressed with the way it handle and was well up to the task that they need it for. Being cordless was a real bonus for them and the life on the battery charge was very impressive

Having just had a first shot with my new hedge trimmer l am delighted. It is light in weight, & ergonomically well designed. The machine limits itself as to what it cannot cut through by stopping. This clearly saves doing any damage. I am a gardener by trade, but have opted not to cut hedges in recent years, however this machine will enable me to do all the jobs in the garden rather than having to rely on someone else coming in to do the hedges. The battery was quite quick to charge. All in all, l am very impressed with this hedge trimmer, it is much better than the petrol one l used some years ago, and of course much quieter! Tooled up customer service was great too. When PayPal didn't work twice, l ordered with my debit card. Unbeknown to me, all 3 transactions went through! Fortunately tooled up took the initiative to call me and check my order, so l just ended up with the 1 hedge trimmer, not 3! Thanks Tooled up!

After much research I ordered my Bosch AHS50-20 LI Cordless Hedge Trimmer and have been delighted with its performance so far. We have a lot of hedges, which need a lot of maintenance, but don't always need a petrol trimmer for a quick trim. This Bosch tool is the perfect foil. It's lightweight and a very easy to use, the battery life, straight out of the box, was fine a trial cut saw the whole job done without interruption. A bonus was that the battery is interchangeable with other Bosch tools in the workshop, so for a very long day battery life won't be an issue. The back-off mechanism works extremely well in stopping the cutters choking on too big a branch, or anything else the blades can't cut, and jamming the machine. Overall, delighted with this and am looking forward to using it again.

Only used this a couple of times on a Privet and a Hawthorn hedge Works very well the 50 cm cutting blades is a good bit better than the 45 one I had before and since that was a mains driven one it is a lot lighter. I would think that the Bosch 40 and 45 would not be worth it instead of the 50 the price is not much reduced and the weight difference is tiny . Incidentally Tooled up seems very good value compared to the general online sellers .

I purchased this product for my wife as she found the petrol hedge cutter too heavy. I was worried about the battery life as I was using batteries I already had for my drill. I need not have worried as it cuts very well and quickly and my wife runs out of energy before the battery. Very pleased indeed and have now purchased the long pole version.

I'm a first time owner of a hedge trimmer, so I don't have anything to compare it with. I am most impressed though with its build quality, safety features (I was a bit wary at first, but no need to be), and it certainly does the job! So yes, I would recommend that model too anyone considering buying.

Q : Will the battery fit my old AHS 48Li charger?
A : The AHS 48 LI is quite an old machine now and while it was part of the Power4All system I am guessing you will have one of the first generation chargers. These older chargers will still work with some of the current generation of batteries but only the smaller ones such as 1.5ah and 2ah. This is because the larger capacities like 4ah didn't exist at the time and these batteries aren't compatible with the first generation chargers. So if you wanted to use the same capacity of battery that you were using with the AHS 48 Li there shouldn't be any problem with using your existing charger but if you wanted to use a battery with a larger capacity you might find you need to upgrade the charger as well.
Q : Will this hedgetrimmer work with a power4all 18v 1.5ah battery
A : Hi Michael, yes it will work with any Power4All 18v battery - just bear in mind that the runtime will be shorter with a 1.5ah version (compared to the stock batteries this machine is usually supplied with)
Q : Hi, will this hedge trimmer work with my 18v 2.0ah battery from my GSB 18v-LI professional drill? Regards John
A : Hi John, I'm afraid the batteries from the Blue (Professional) and Green (Garden/DIY) Bosch ranges are not cross compatible and this hedge trimmer can only be used with the Power4All batteries listed in the "Accessories.." section on the right of the product page
Q : How long does one battery charge last?
A : Hi Sue, I'm afraid there's no real answer to this question - firstly it is dependent on how hard the machine is working, and cutting through thicker branches and woody stems will drain the battery faster than light trimming of leafy material, but secondly there are a number of different batteries to choose from - the higher the ah rating, the longer the runtime you will get. Generally speaking, a 2.5ah battery will more than likely be all you need for most small to medium hedges while a 6ah battery would probably let you finish a large garden on a single charge.
Q : Does 2.5 kg weight include 2.5 ah battery? Thanks Steve
A : Hi Steve, according to Bosch 2.5kg is the weight with a 2.5ah battery installed, and the bare tool weighs 1.9 kg, so based on that it will weigh a bit more than 2.5kg if you are using it with one of the bigger batteries
Q : Will my Bosch lawn mower battery fit this trimmer
A : That depends what lawnmower you have - this is an 18v hedge trimmer so can only be used with 18v Bosch Lithium Ion Power4All (Garden/DIY) batteries. There were no Bosch 18v lawnmowers available until fairly recently, when the CITYMOWER 18 was released. Most cordless Bosch mowers use 36v batteries however, which are not compatible with this machine.
Q : Will this machine cut forsythia, brambles, fuchsia, all within one front hedge? About 30 feet in length and between 4 and 5 feet high. I have never had a cordless hedge trimmer before .
A : I can confirm that as long as you keep the blade clean and well oiled as to avoid the blade getting clogged up with sap and other plant residues then this trimmer should be suitable for branches and twigs up to 25mm in diameter.
