Domestic garden shredders maximum shredding diameter is based on shredding green waste and not hard branches. Please note that brown waste (branches /twigs) reduce the maximum diameter the shredder is capable of. As a rule half the size of the maximum diameter for a guide to maximum brown waste (branches /twigs) the shredder will be capable of. Also note that shredder performance if affected by how much moisture is in waste being shredded. You must not attempt to shred wet waste in electric shredders.

On arrival the shredder had a number of fractures in its casing where the cable is normally wound. As the outer carton was undamaged it suggests the damage was done at the factory rather than during distribution or delivery. Unusual for Bosch. Tooled-Up did a great job in arranging for its collection and a refund, and I was able to reorder a replacement which arrived pretty quickly. It is a heavy item and not easy to get over door sills etc so try to choose somewhere to store it that will make life easy. Moving around on reasonably level ground is quite easy as it tilts back on its wheels, which take all the weight. So far I have only used it on hawthorn branches around 25mm in diameter at the base and around 3m long. It gobbles these very nicely, chopping them into roughly 20mm chunks. The unit 'grabs' branches and then feeds them in automatically. I have seen no debris fly out of the feed chamber but long branches can 'whip' when they are grabbed and these can swipe across ones face. I would suggest never using this tool without safety glasses (which came free!). Build quality is robust and it is reasonably quiet in use. I haven't yet tried hedge trimmings or lighter materials but they should be OK if perhaps a bit more slowly than a high speed shredder would do. So far, I am pleased with this tool and hope it will give me long service.
The product was delivered very quickly and is a robust shredder that performs very well
Much better than the Bosch AXT Rapid 2200 I had previously for producing a finer output. Good to have a box underneath.
I bought this shredder to replace my old Bosch 2200 AXT. Although the AXT 25 is more powerful and copes with bigger branches etc., there should be some way of notifying you when the collection box underneath is full as when shredding lots of items you have to keep looking in the box to check and a full box is not easy to pick up and dispose of the contents. Despite the above, I am very pleased with the performance.
Great piece of kit, does everything it should. During my research I watched (can't say where) a video of an 8 year old one still going strong, what better recommendation. Also best buy in an independent consumer journal (can't say which one).
Shredder copes well with medium sized branches easily and smaller ones with leaves as well. It’s pretty quiet humming with occasional cracking as it works away pulling down the material loaded into the chute. The result it coarse shredded material suitable for composting or mulching. Whilst it is sturdily heavy, the two wheels allow it to be manoeuvred from storage to the garden. The chute assembly can be removed stowed in the collection box. Fitting the chute assembly can be slightly clunky but always fits in the end. Overall it is worth paying more for this robust, reliable and relatively quiet shredder.
I have used electric shredding machines before so did not have high hopes but this thing is fantastic. I was quoted £800!!! to clear a large volume of tree clippings so I bought this for £350 and did it myself. So I saved £450 and still have the shredding machine. It look two days to clear but well worth it. Brilliant little bit of kit.
Excellent product and well worth the Price
This unit is solidly built, reasonably quiet and looks very impressive. It is the second bosch shredder i have purchased and just like the previous it is limited on what it can shred. This i put down to a problem with the design. i have some large yucca trees that shed their leaves on a regular basis and these just wrap around the shredding mechanism. I end up having to chop thee up by hand. I tried to shred the trimmings from a large wisteria and these filled the gaps between the shredding plates and the unit stopped working. Unfortunately, it only seems to be happy with woody stems and i just don't have many of them. the process for cleaning/dislodging is straight forward, but time consuming when it happens every 3-4 minutes. The exit section under the shredder also becomes blocked if you try and put too much through the unit. i have lots of bosch products, which i am very happy with, but this is the last bosch shredder that i will purchase.
I'd read the various reviews on the Fredshed website which enabled me to make a decision on which type of shredder to choose.I've already reduced a massive pile tree and bush cuttings to one large bag full of mulch. As stated from the previous review, it struggled with more finer leafy folliage which tended to clog it up.However, once I had the cutter set perfectly against the metal plate it chewed through the branches up to an inch with ease. I also received a small discount by using the links on the Fredshed website.
It loves hard woody material up to 1 1/2 inches diameter, youll struggle to get soft or mainly leafy stuff through (which the Rapid doesnt have a problem with), but then soft stuff rots down fast enough anyway so not really a problem. The 22 & 25TC has a new type of cutter that is meant to overcome this, but I decided not to be the Guinea Pig and let someone else try out the new system. Recommended by Fredshed, worth a read before you commit to buying, if youve got time. Its the same toothed gear against a metal plate in a drum, as on its predecessor the AXT 2200HP Quiet, but with an extra 0.3kWs, which you can see in action on YouTube Best Electric Garden Shredder for Home use. That part works well, plenty of torque, and will chew through stuff that causes most/any other electric shredding machine to jam up, the AXT 2200HP Rapid included. The difference between this one and its predecessor is the built in collection box, and why Id only give it 4/5 stars, once the box gets about 1/2 full the mulch builds up under the drum and tends to get drawn back into the machine again, and starts blocking it. It would be better to let the mulch fall on the ground but you cant easily do this as without the box the bottom of the cutter is exposed to childrens fingers and dogs noses, and it has a safety transponder in the box that cuts out the motor if its not in place. Soft stems have a tendency to come out bruised rather than cut, but if woody material is only chewed and still in one length you have to wind in the metal plate against the drum with the drum turning until you can just hear metal against metal. The Hardened steel cutter will actually bed into the softer alloy plate, and the cutter is then set. All garden shredder tend to work better if you put the material through within a week of it being cut, as woody material dries out it gets much harder.
This is the worst piece of garden machinery i have ever bought. it is the second bosch shredder i have had & the design & its perfomance is distinctly worse than the original. 1 it is very unstable due to what appears to be a higher centre of gravity & wheels closer together than in the original. This made it difficult to wheel across my lawn. The problem was fixed by replacing the wheels with the wheels & axle from the original. 2 its shredding performance is limited & it frequently seems to regugitate partially shredded material . It is not as effective as its predecessor. It is not surprising that bosch have added a tilting feed feature to allow blockages to be cleared. 3 the "pusher" is usless. It only serve to compact a jam.
