Why use a Lawn Raker or Scarifier?
When you cut your lawn there is a gradual build up of dead grass also known as thatch - which congregates just on top of the soil below the grass tips. This will impede drainage and stop air reaching the grass.
Moss builds up on damp or lawns in the shade and will again affect the grass in a similar way.
Lawn Scarifiers
A Scarifier will help to remove moss & thatch but will also cut through the surface of the lawn. This has a number of benefits such as aerating the underlying soil & splitting the grass into lots of separate plants thus thickening the turf and encouraging a healthy lawn.
Use a Scarifier once a year either in autumn or late spring when the grass is growing well.
Lawn Rakers
A Lawn Raker will remove moss, thatch & leaves. This will help to keep a nice tidy lawn whilst encouraging growth as old dead material is removed which would otherwise stifle this growth.
Use a Lawn Raker every 1 - 2 months while grass is growing well.

Happy with this lawn raker so far, unfortunately it came with 2 missing bolts to fit the handle. Got 2 from Bosch after about a week's wait. Does the job it was designed for very well.However the grass collecting box keeps coming apart very easily as it comes in 2 sections out of the box.I am going to have to watch this to make sure it dosn't keep happening, otherwise i'm not going to be very happy. Good solid machine though and it's worth getting one.

The Bosch AVR1100 scarifier seems well built and powerful. I used this on my lawn which hadn't been raked in about 15 years and was so full of moss that my petrol mower had trouble cutting it. This machine very effectively picked up so much moss, thatch and weeds that I was only able to do about a third of the lawn before I had nowhere to put any more. I recommend this scarifier for its build quality and effectiveness but be prepared to dispose of mounds of compostible material.

On the second time of using i inadvertently caught the rotating drum on my lawn edging stones and it instantly shattered. So, although the machine works quite well, it is actually too light and fragile and, in my case, had a very short useful life.

Q : I have had previous lawn rakes and all have suffered a fairly high rate of tyne wear and have become unusable after a couple of years.I suspect that this is due to gritty soil. I am considering buying this machine but would like to know if replacement tynes are available as I am sure I will have the same problem. Thanks in anticipation. A.
A : I have looked into your enquiry and this lawn raker has 14 rotating BOR steel blades on the drum and unlike the ALR900 which uses replaceable spring steel tines, these blades do not appear to be replaceable.

This product carries a full 3 year manufacturers warranty covering both faulty materials and faulty workmanship, it does not cover general wear and tear or damage, batteries, blades, bulbs and other consumables. In the unlikely event of a fault the item returned is subject to fair wear & tear and must not have been used beyond the scope of it's design.
