As the name suggests J-B Weld was originally developed to join metals together, and the idea came from a Texan man called Sam Bonham who worked in a garage, servicing trucks. Intrigued by the prospect of an easy to apply product that could form a high strength bond as an alternative to welding, he approached a local chemist to see if they could work together to produce something. The resulting two part epoxy was a great success, and in conjunction with his wife Mary, he established the JB-Weld brand to market and sell this new product, originally to other garages and automotive businesses, before it was eventually stocked in shops, both in the USA and abroad.

Such was the success of the original formula that J-B Weld will be the first name that springs to mind to many people who need to make small repairs or modifications to metal components, and it is useful not only for DIYers who may not have access to welding equipment, but also for applications where welding would be inappropriate - for example when in proximity to sensitive materials which may be damaged in the process.

These days, JB-Weld don't only make products for joining metal, but also have a range of additional adhesives for materials like wood and plastic, as well as related products such as threadlocker and exhaust pipe repair kits.
