An edging iron, also known as an edging knife or a lawn edger, is a simple garden tool which is used to create distinct borders between a lawn and other garden features like flowerbeds, paving, ponds and patios. The edging iron is worked into the grass by pushing it down underfoot and then wobbled from side to side to break up the ground underneath. After repeating this process along the length of the desired area, the result is a clear, neat border. Edging irons are used both for maintaining existing edges and creating new ones.
