Fret Saws & Scroll Saws Information
Like it's namesake in the hand tool world, the Fret Saw,
or Scroll Saw, has a very fine blade which makes it ideal for cutting out intricately curved patterns in thinner woods. Resembling a smaller bandsaw, the Fret Saw instead uses a reciprocating blade which can easily be detached and re-attached to enable cutouts to be made from a drilled starter hole in the middle of a workpiece. Many early models of fret saw made extra use of the motor to supply a supplementary sanding tool on the side of the machine, and it is still possible to find tools which carry on this tradition, along with various other modern accroutements like adjustable flexible dust blowers and worklights.
