This is a good tool cabinet.
To be frank, I’m hard to please, I looked at many tool chests and for the money, I thought this one seemed to represent good value. I bought the 6 drawer, 670 x 360 x 310 mm and have now been using it a few weeks so can give an honest review.
Am delighted.
The Positive bits:
The unit is robust, not recycled bean can metal, and it’s well made.
It arrived quickly, well packaged and completely undamaged. Good colour combination (black/blue/silver) and came with 2 secure keys.
Has two very robust side handles, frankly they’re needed, it weighs in at ‘quite heavy’, so watch your back.
All the drawer bearings seem good and smooth, although the drawers need to be 'snapped' shut to fully close. (I always keep the drawers at the pre 'snap' position, which means they do poke out a fraction, but hardly noticeable and they open and close to that point v smoothly). Drawers need to be fully closed to lock but are held in place even in the no lock position, if the lid is down.
All the drawers are spacious enough and the right depth for most of my spanners (some quite large), spanner racks fit nicely in them and they come with thin rubberised liners - great! Why don’t all manufacturers do this – costs them almost nothing but saves customers searching around for mats and sorting it themselves!
The lid opens on gas dampers - nice!
I needed to put this cabinet on a shelf unit with limited head height, this might be useful for those wanting to do the same - I was concerned that the lid would have to be fully open to release the drawers from the locking system, but no! as long as there’s enough room to open the lid almost half height, (I have 200mm above the chest before touching the shelf - which you need to access your tools anyway) - all is well, drawers can be opened and closed and then locked easily.
Negatives:
A few flimsy bits, like the plastic emblem, which was not stuck on straight and snapped when trying to correct - but who cares, I was going to remove it anyway.
The lid is maybe a fraction 'tinny', it flexes a little on the diagonal, using a slightly thicker gauge metal would have just made it feel more solid, but it does not affect the integrity of the chest so really no problem.
Overall: Five stars, if I’m struggling to criticise, which is unlike me – you should go treat yourself!
