Bosch AXT 25 TC Turbine Cutting 3 in 1 Garden Shredder
Domestic garden shredders maximum shredding diameter is based on shredding green waste and not hard branches. Please note that brown waste (branches /twigs) reduce the maximum diameter the shredder is capable of. As a rule half the size of the maximum diameter for a guide to maximum brown waste (branches /twigs) the shredder will be capable of. Also note that shredder performance if affected by how much moisture is in waste being shredded. You must not attempt to shred wet waste in electric shredders.

Great bit of kit. Simple operation. Could do with more features for the price but not at all disappointed with its performance. Because the hopper is not particularly wide dealing with handfuls of cuttings can be messy. An attachment could solve this.
This replaced an AXT 2200 HP that I'd had for 15 years. It's certainly a worthy successor and made short work of the material I put into it. When I tried to register it for an extended guarantee, I couldn't find the serial number - the manual was of little use in identifying its location. Where did I find it? Hidden under the power cable coiled around a cover plate at the back of the machine! So now you know.
Good service, no surprises
A little noisier than my previous Bosch shredder but much more effective, producing finely shredded material suitable for composting. Competitive price and first rate service from the retailer.
Instruction manual hard to follow, but once assembled it worked a treat! Managed to cope with relatively wet material and dryer prunings. I now have some good composting material.
We purchased the shredder because we were feeling overwhelmed by garden waste. It has already eaten through a massive pile of cuttings and judging by the weight in the green bin it has compressed them much better then we have ever done before. It is happiest dealing with long stems and long thin branches. Small twigs seem to turn sideways and clog it up if mixed with leaves and forced in too quickly. It's very quiet compared to a petrol shredder and easy to quickly set up and use. I would recommend it.
Love it shredded up branches well nice and clean
It's very top heavy when assembled and with its narrow wheelbase is somewhat unstable to move around. It's not a patch on its superior 20 year old predecessor (ATX2200HP now in its death throes) and in comparison, requires a lot of effort to feed in material for shredding. The output is thus far of acceptable quality to go into my compost bin to rot down for garden mulching.
Service provide by Tooled-up very good - next day delivery. Good price too. The machine is really easy to use and shreds well. I had hoped it would shred slightly finer than it does however it will still compost down quicker than left as branches and it avoids smelly bonfires which nobody likes!
Only tried it once but so far so good
Excellent shredder, heavy duty, very efficient. Bought this product as my son-in-law has one and have previously tried it out.
Excellent product, highly satisfied, zips through branches with ease. Great company to deal with, product arrived next day
An excellent product which does exactly what it says. Quiet, easy to use and good size collection bin. Very lucky to find tooled-up.com, very good service with great communication and fast delivery to Ireland. The best price by far, and comes with free loppers, safety glasses, lubricant.
Delighted with my purchase, great value and bang for your buck. Had an issue with the first machine that was delivered which had to be returned, absolutely no fuss with customer service organising the pick up and delivery of a replacement to Ireland ( a massive thank you to Maisie who helped me with that). She was very prompt and professional with all correspondence. Have used my Bosch twice in the garden getting about 12 bucket loads of garden wastes far and no issues. It's a great machine and can't recommend it highly enough, went through all the branches and greenery that I threw at it. Well done Tooled-Up on a great shopping experience and backing it up with excellent customer service. Will be ordering again, Neil
Haven't had much opportunity to use it yet, but so far it seems tough and has not blocked up. I got it to replace an impact shredder which constantly needed its blades sharpened, which was always a hassle as the hex nuts holding them in usually burr off, requiring drilling out. The most noticeable difference is that the chopped bits are much larger than the impact shredder, which chewed everything into mulch. The Bosch leaves long twiggy bits with leaves on, and chews up wood into bigger chunks, so it is not really usable as mulch, but it will be fine for composting. It gobbles up a fair amount each time (much more than the impact shredder) and it doesn't seem to be stressed. The prodder could be a touch longer I think, just to make sure bushy bits get picked up by the turbine blade. The machine is heavy, and top heavy, but it is moveable OK. The bin is useful, but it needs shaking every so often to distribute the contents. It is not very well fitting, but it works fine. So far, I am happy with it, which is good, considering its price compared to other options!
It's slow and the basket could be bigger as lots of reviewers have correctly pointed out. Some people say it topples over easily when moving - that can be true, but you just have to use the handholds correctly and not be too impatient. Otherwise it's pretty good. Saves a lot of time if like me you had to cut all your branches manually and then put in bags to get in brown bin or take to tip. Now I shred it and can even compost it. Produces smallish chips of branches and you get a decent, compact mass which certainly makes it easier if you're going to the tip. Saved me a lot of time and looks solid enough for years of reliable usage.
Great shredder. Does exactly what its sold to do. It arrived quickly and was the best price I could find delivered to Ireland. As per a number of other reviews it did arrive with a broken wheel. However, a replacement was sent out no bother from Tooled up.
Excellent machine. Strong safety features. Powerful chipper and shredder. Does chip 45mm timber. Does shred ivy, laurel, honeysuckle etc. Not afraid of hard work at all.
Works well, chomps through all I have given it. A few wood chunks tend to get caught in centre of turbine that can be cleared at the end of a session. Overall well pleased
Bought this to help clear a jungle pertaining to be a garden and so glad we did. It has been a huge help in getting masses of shrubbery into bin bags to take to the dump. I'd say one full basket underneath in a big bag is heavy enough so no point having a bigger bucket. Including Virginia Creeper, some sort of laurel, huge pyracantha, hawthorn hedge, tree branches, buddleia, ivy. A professional gardener neighbour here was really impressed with how easy it was to use and how well it shredded without jamming. Apparently he has a large petrol shredder which is constantly jamming. We have been using it almost constantly for 8-10 hours per day for four days and it has jammed about three times mainly from trying to push too much through. Dead easy to either reverse to unjam or lift up to retrieve stuck matter with gloves on and care due to how sharp the blades are. He also commented on how good the resulting shredding would be for composting as cuts up small. It was out of stock when ordered but said it would be back in two days later. Risked it and chose pick up in store. Surprisingly it was in store waiting on the day it said it would be back in stock.
At the present time I have only used the machine twice. The first time, I used it to shred existing wood that I had already cut into two-inch lengths manually and composted. It did the job, but the short lengths could lie sideways in the machine and therefore not chop properly. Also, being mixed with compost, the machine was prone to clog. I followed the advice, which is, if it starts to clog, to put branches through, which clear the blockage. On the second occasion I used it for tomato plants and broad bean stems which, again, are quite soft woods. These went through the machine very well and chopped properly. Once the leaves have fallen off the trees, I will be putting proper branches through the machine, but I do not expect to have any problems with it when it is used for its true purpose, which is chipping of green branches.
Excellent service, product as described, product reaches all expectations.
I have been using the Bosch AXT 25TC Turbine Cut System for many months now, successfully shredding all the material from a very large perennial flower bed and spreading it back on the earth - No digging!! However, just this week I have been chopping a mixture of foliage, pruned roses and plant stems - general material - and just this morning the machine would not operate. Upon pressing the Green button all I got was the buzz of the motor. I also tried the reverse button and heard the same buzz. I did the usual thing; unplugged the machine and checked it was not jammed in Shute, checked it was not bunged up under the chopping blades, checked the basket was correctly installed. All OK! I decided that if all seemed in order it was obviously a 'signal' problem so took off the yellow/red/green button plate and straight away I saw the problem. To the left (above the yellow button) are two white terminals. One of the terminals had worked loose and was not pushed fully home. Pushed it in, replaced cover plate, plugged in. Sure enough, that was the problem. All working normal again. JUST SAYING !!! Saved myself the problem of getting the machine back to Manufacturers at an enormous cost. Result!
This is a heavy duty garden shredder. i have been really impressed on how it handles all types of garden waste and turns it into compostable matter. bosch is a great reliable well made brand and this product does them proud.
Initially very pleased with this product, although i must question its ability to cope with 45mm diam branches. They do sometimes become jammed in the cutter and you can struggle to remove them with an old srewdriver (watch your fingers!). Sorry to say reliability is suspect. Mine won't run or start after 7 months of intermittent domestic use even though i have gone through the troubleshooting instructions carefully. There is a safety device (a micro-switch, i think) ensuring it won't start if the chute is not properly in place. But the switch seems to be broken or faulty. Now the complete shredder must be returned to the bosch service centre under warranty, but it has to be packed and i don't have the original packaging (which was falling apart with the machine gaping out of it, taped up by the cursing carrier, when delivered). "get a box from your local supermarket" they said. Yeah, ok! The machine weighs 30.5kg so it will need to be an amazingly strong box. Believe it or not bosch has no local repair agents for such garden machinery. So much for (another) example of fab german engineering (actually made in hungary), and wonderful customer care. Difficult to recommend, i'm afraid.
Received this on the tuesday, by wednesday night half the 2 acre garden was cleared of detritus and trimmings from trees. I followed the instructions on size and everything <40mm went in and disappeared. Everything bigger gets chainsawed and goes in the wood burner. The mulch is now spread over the flower beds and the muddy paths through the woods. I had to wind on the knife a little bit, as the day went on, so don't know how long this'll last before it needs replacing but, having seen the price ouch!
I have no previous experience of garden shredders but i have been most impressed by the performance of the bosch axt 25 tc turbine. Basically it does what it says and chomps its way through hedge and tree cuttings reducing them to kibble. Really labour saving when you have to chop up cuttings for garden bin collection. I wish i had bought one sooner! Good space saving design with safety features but the detachable plastic hopper does give me some concern for the possibility of future wear on the hooks.
Early days but meets all my expectations so far
This is a top quality product. we have used it to chop up all manner of garden waste from soft foliage and brambles to 50mm branches. it makes short work of all of this, reducing the volume hugely. blockages are few and far between and are easily sorted. its expensive, but if you need a heavy duty garden shredder i would thoroughly recommend this product.
Cleared an overgrown garden. Axt25tc coped excellently with quite thick branches -chopping them into small pieces suitable for use as ground cover or ready for composting. i was impressed with just how quiet it was. i was concerned by the high centre of gravity which caused it to topple when i first tried to wheel it. slow, careful movement solved the problem. fiskars loppers also proved their worth.
I read a lot of positive reviews and am pleased to say it is as good they said.
Bought this after reading many reviews of different shredders and it certainly doesn't disappoint! - i have a garden full of various shrubs & trees and this bosch machine has made light work of all of them. it's much quieter than i expected and chops up everything with ease, it does seem to be better with woody material compared to more leafy stuff, but still crunches it all up so it can be thrown in bin bags easily, got the entire garden cut back & the clippings cut up and disposed of over 2 days - it used to take me at least double that. very well put together powerful shredder, my only negative comment would be how awkward it is to move it around on its wheels, it's very top heavy and can tip over if you don't keep hold of the top when it's being moved into position, but this is a very minor gripe about what has been a godsend....I wish i'd bought this years ago!!!
I put this to use on arrival and it did not disappoint, shredding all that i fed in from max size branches to leafy material. I am very pleased with its performance
I am very pleased (so far) with this shredder. Easy to assemble and use. Folds up relatively small for storage. It seems more than able to live up to the abilities described on the website. I have no hesitation in recommending this product.
An excellent piece of kit. Easy to use and a pleasure too, once you get some practice. Easy to clear ocassional blockages.
This piece of kit is exactly what i wanted: robust and no fuss performance. So far it has munched for several hours (both green and woody material) and has not jammed up once. Some green material is not completely broken up, however it is deformed sufficiently for the purposes of composting or reducing the volume for disposal. Cutting adjustment is trivially easy and i've only needed to do this once so far when i first started using it out of the box. It is quite heavy and awkward to move over non-flat surfaces but this is a small compromise for kit that performs as well as this. Mainly i have found that it will self-feed woody material, however thin woody and green metrial do need a helping hand with the prodder (which i have found to be robust). I have not experienced the problem of the prodder being munched - maybe bosch have rectified this problem. Given its performance the size of the hopper does mean that it needs frequent emptying.
This is the most powerful electric shredder i could find - it works hard for me as a professional gardener. there are a few niggles. the weight of the motor makes it unstable in the back of a truck, and the wheels don't help to make it easy to move. It's light enough to lift fairly easily, but there are no obvious "grip" places. The collecting box could be bigger, and the thing they give you for poking the shreddings in to the chute is feeble. But, these are minor issues. It does what it's supposed to do, shred branches, better than any other electric shredder i've used. the motor doesn't overheat, even after 4 or 5 hours of continuous running, jams are easy to clear, and adjusting the cutting plate is very simple. The figures quoted for throughput seem accurate - i can easily get through over 1,000kg of material in a day with this chap. Absolutely recommended for serious use.
Quiet and very good on clippings and small brannches. doesn't feed small twigs and leaves well.
Excellent and very quiet.
I must say i was a bit wary of going for the top of the range bosch shredder. It usually means over-priced and over-rated. I have worked with the cheap end garden shredders which die quick deaths after becoming very blunt very quickly, leading to clogging and frustration. Can you get spares? No chance! This axt 25tc is a relaxed muncher of garden trimmings. It has survived two large weekend clearances of woody shrubs with ease and looks like it will last for a good few years. The blades look fearsome but rotate with smooth power and the electronics look after overloading (although it has handled everything i have put through it with ease. Green stuff eventually is not cut as cleanly as when the blade is new, but is still mashed up enough for composting or mulching. The adjustment mechanism is brilliantly simple for getting clean cuts if you want to tweak it. It is also quiet. No buzzsaw racket, no ear defenders needed, it just hums and munches in a very pleasing way, it won't annoy even the most sensitive neighbours. It is heavy though. A two man lift at least. The wheels are too close together and when wheeling it around, it is quite unstable and liable to oscillate from wheel to wheel over the slightest uneven ground threatening to twist out of your grip and fall on its side. This said, it stores away remarkably well when the top feed section stores in the collection box. the mechanism is aimed towards general garden shredding which incudes softer material but handles green wood well, the other bosch axt 25d has a drum mechanism aimed at woodier stuff. Overall, this machine will serve a large garden well for some years and is a good alternative to hiring in a true industrial shredder. I wonder what it will be like getting spares though? I have dropped a star in the performance for it's shaky manouverability.
I'd recommend this product, and although it doesn't come cheap, i think it's well worth spending the extra money if you can afford it. the shredder chomps through thick, woody branches with ease, and draws the stuff through by itself, meaning that you don't have to waste time and energy standing there feeding it all in. my two small gripes with it are (1) that it could do with a longer lead; and (2) that you have to be a bit careful when wheeling it about otherwise it overbalances. but all in all, it is a very good machine. the cut material comes out in slightly bigger chunks than i'm used to from my last shredder, but it's still ok to put on the beds as mulch. it copes better with large, woody stuff than small bits, so i would say, if you primarily want a shredder for small bits that you've cut with secateurs, go for soemthing else. but if you want to deal with stuff that you've cut with garden loppers or a chainsaw, this is your machine.
The best shredder i have come across, reducing anything that will enter its throat with ease. The only weakness is the plastic paddle which is used to encourage tricky bits to get sucked into the turbine cutters. I managed to shred mine the second time i used the machine.
Very pleased so far, shreds tree loppings easily, although into larger pieces than my old shredder. We'll see how they compost.
Excellent machine, definitely the best for the price.Buy it.
The performance or this model far surpasses that of my previous ATX 1600. Being more powerful but just as quiet. The turbo cutter is quite different from the screw cutting mechanism of its predecessor. This machine copes well with leafy material and with the aid of the plastic paddle has managed to shred a mountain jasmine prunings, all be it with a little difficulty. Larger branches from a willow tree were dispensed with in no time. If the branch fits into the mouth of the shredder the cutters cope. There is a safety interlock so that the collecting bin must be in place for the machine to operate and will stop if the bin dislodged or removed. The only downside to this machine is the collecting box. Shredded material builds up as a cone inside the collecting bin and when only a third to a half full reaches the cutter. This impairs the cutters and prevents any leafy material from being processed efficiently. Never the less, emptying the collecting bin more frequently is not all bad when you consider just how heavy it can get. All in all a very good and quiet workhorse.
Excellent piece of Teutonic turbine technology. Copes with both thick woody stems and bushy greenery well. Could be easier to move around and rather strnge that the plastic "prodder" is too long, I took the end off mine almost immediately
So far have used the machine for a total of 4hrs. Seems to be doing a first rate job though one would wish the stuff would go through more quickly. Cannot compare with other machines currently available so cant judge whether it is fast, slow or middling. It did clog up at one point but this was more through my lack of experience than the fault of the machine. Important to look down inside the feeder hole and make sure you can see through the revolving cutting cone from time to time. If you are having trouble feeding stuff through stop the machine and unclog the inside of the cone. The integral shredded material storage box below the revolving cutters (which has to be in place for the machine to work)is a superb design feature. The top part of the machine (feeder and handle) can easily be removed and stored in this box to make the machine more compact for storage). This is a sturdy machine which some may feel to be on the heavy side if you need to lift it into a car, say, but I see that as a positive point. Certainly, this piece of German engineering is a case of 'Vorsprung durch Technik' to coin a well used phrase! This is a workhorse for a bigger garden. It is expensive but you get what you pay for!
Have only used it once so far, but it is quiet and powerful. Dealt with a large holly bush and Leylandi easily, up to it's maximum cutting thickness.
this was somthing we really needed we are very happy with this product does what we want it to do,,, as for the server brilliant aswell tooled up is bookmarked great product
I bought this shredder to replace my ancient (~15yrs) ATCO which had eventually died and I expected this to be more of an improvement than it has been. It's fine on woody material but not so good on weeds and other green material - you need plenty of woody material to push the other stuff through. It clogs up when the bucket is too full, but you can't easily see when that's going to be. It's top heavy and unstable when being dragged across rough ground. The standout feature for me is that it's easy to take the top off to unjam it when it becomes clogged . I've only had it a month but the build quality looks OK and the Bosch guarantee is a plus.
The shredder arrived on time ,very quickly! Difficult to assess performance as yet, because it is late in the season, our 3 hedges and many bushes/trees had already been trimmed for the year and we used a recently purchased fire-pit to burn all, in the absence of the shredder which appeared unobtainable because of CV. However we had read 'Fred the Shed's recommendation so we hope it fits the bill. It appeared on 3 other web-sites awn a cheaper cost but they couldn't provide it when needed. We had had a McCulloch shredder years ago for our 2 acre garden but it proved a waste of money.
The machine shredded my fresh Buddleia prunings very well, although I have not tried it wih damp, or soft materials. The machine seems very robust in design. However, it is both noisier and much more expensive, than my previous Bosch shredder, (similar to the the 25 D). It is also very top-heavy and not as easy to move around the garden. The fact that it has to rest on its runners at one end, is not good for protection of the runners. It would have been more sensible to incorporate rubber feet or bumper pads at least. This is surprising as Bosch products are usually the very best for user friendliness and ergonomic design. (I could praise the design of my Bosch lawnmower endlessly.)
I'd been considering this for a while after hiring one a couple of years ago. A great addition to the garden as it easily handles branches up to 4-5 cm that are too large for my existing shredder and would take forever to decompose. It doesn't chop smaller material very finely so I'm glad to have the old shredder for dealing with the green stuff - top growth of veg, etc. As another reviewer has noted, it is top-heavy and a bit awkward to manouevre as a result. Delivery was prompt and as promised.
Customer Questions & Answers
Q : Do these shredders come with a power cable and If not what connector type do I need.
A : Hi Rob, I've heard reports of some people ordering these on the internet and finding them arriving with EU power cables (or no power cable) but we are a UK seller and I can confirm this will arrive with a UK power lead for immediate use
Q : When I plug in and switch on the machine it beeps for around 5+ seconds and the 2 green lights keep flashing alternately. It is plugged directly into a ring main socket (more than 1). Any suggestions
A : Looking in the manual I can see that if the Machine beeps (also two lights on and does not start, this indicates that the collection box/chute is not correctly assembled. To resolve this ensure the collection box is in position. Ensure the chute assembly is in position and clamped by turning the clamping knob (red) fully clockwise.
Q : Hi there, can you tell me can the blades be sharpened when they go dull?
A : Not effectively, you would need to purchase a new blade.
Q : Bosch AXT 25 tc shredder problem. Brand new shredder. Have done one collection box full. Machine beeps for 3 seconds and two lights flash alternately. Tried everything in trouble shooting guide, but still the same. Any ideas?
A : It sounds like the Undervoltage protection is kicking in and stopping the machine from working. If connecting to an extension cable you may find the one being used is not heavy duty enough, an extension cable with a cross section that is too small causes a distinct reduction in the performance capabilities of the machine. I would recommend using a heavy duty cable with a cable diameter of at least 2.5mm if over 25m or Section: 3 x 1.5mm² if under 25m. It is also advisable to completely unwind an extension cable when being used as this will greatly affect the performance and capability of the cable.
