DeWalt D26430 Delta Sander

I ordered this Sander for 4 day delivery . There was no stock and the item took about a month to arrive . However Tooled Up kept me constantly informed of the delays , and although inconvenient their continual updates kept me well in the picture and was much appreciated . On arrival the sander was 100% .

I bought this sander during the Covid years and unfortunately it has what I believe is a design fault. The 360 degree rotating base plate is the area of weakness. I found that it wore out extremely quickly, this is despite using the correct grit sandpaper - I tried using the sander at different speeds and using different amounts of pressure (although a general rule of thumb is to apply light pressure and let the sander do the work). The base plate would spin around rendering the sander useless. I returned the sander to DeWalt who replaced the base plate but the same problem occurred. I wonder if quality standards dropped off during Covid (i.e. cheaper materials etc). Interestingly this sander has been discontinued, I wonder why?
