Amazing sound transmission! Even a healthy sounding engine produces a fair old clatter but it's easy to sort out unwelcome bangs and rasps from the normal noises. Always use the extension; there's no loss in sound level. Be careful approaching anything that's vibrating; do it firmly but gently, preferably using the side of the probe, not the tip. If you point the probe directly at, say, a vibrating housing, initial contact can produce a machine-gun rattle that threatens your ear-drums. Build quality is not robust, the connection between rod and diaphragm unit seeming a little weak, but functionally this is a little gem; forget poking about with the long screwdriver. Essential bit of kit.

Not much to it - a mechs stethoscope. Quality ok. Beats a broom handle
