This is axe is the business. And yes, I'd saw it was half way between an axe and an splitting maul, too. In fact the back end is ideal for mauling once the blade is in far enough - usually first strike.

Very nice splitting axe, with a funky wedge built into the head - it really doesn't get stuck, I just wish it was a bit heavier. It takes some getting used to if you are normally using a maul, but I do like it. I would say its about halfway between an axe and a splitting maul.

as expected of Bahco, very well made, good edge/steel. Takes minimal effort to split wood.

Whist this wood splitting axe seems to work well, i have found that after only a few days use the head started working its way up the handle, by about 1cm, and getting worse. I returned the axe to tooled-up and got a replacement. However the same thing is already happening again, so i have to conclude that the build quality or design is not up to the job.
