Battery AH Explained
The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.
Battery Voltage Explained
A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.

I had a few 36 volt batteries from 10 years ago that still fit this strimmer. Amazing such a beast of a trimmer, wire never snapped on whole garden which was a pet hate on my old corded one. Thanks. Looking at the trimmer next

I trapped my foot in a rabbit hole whilst walking down my sloping garden and was thrown forward. I instinctually used my strimmer to help break my fall! It snapped in half!! Probably saved me from a more serious injury. Ordered another one as I was very happy with it.

Very impressed with this 36v grass trimmer. Saves a lot of time and effort from getting out my petrol powered one just to do the fiddly bits that the main mower cannot get to. Pity that li-ion batteries are so eyewateringly expensive - particularly Bosch. Love to have a couple of 4ah ones.

Only used once so far. It did the job on tough grass quickly and well. I am using a 4Ah battery but it doesn't seem to upset the balance. I found it quite heavy and made a strap for it although it was a bit tricky getting the position for the strap just right. This made it much easier to use.

The trimmer works pretty well and is reasonably quiet. It's speed is changed by squeezing the on switch slightly more or slightly less. If wearing gardening gloves this is not easy to judge but with more practice should be OK. The angle of trim is adjusted by simultaneously pressing a button and rotating the shaft; there is a bit of a knack to doing this. My existing trimmer is very, very old and a health and safety disaster but when edge-trimming it is possible to look directly down onto the spinning cutter (not to be recommended). Like all modern trimmers this Bosch is designed to avoid this so in my first couple of tries I am finding it hard to get the neatness of edge I have had before. I have several Bosch tools and already own two batteries; used on a very large lawn inset with trees and fairly long grass I found the 1st battery lasted about 50 mins and the second completed the job about 45 mins later. If you have a large area to do I would seriously advise considering 2 batteries. It is early days with this tool but it is solidly made and I am sure I will get used to it. I am confident it will give good service.

Excellent machine. I'd just bought a Bosch cordless lawn mower so was pleased that this one uses the same battery. I can cut both my lawns (quite large) and do the edges with the strimmer all with one battery charge. The strimmer is quite heavy with the battery in and it's very powerful - seems to have a mind of it's own sometimes :) but then I'm a 71 year old female with arthritic hands so if I can deal with it anyone can! A brilliant purchase. I'm very happy.

Only used it once, a bit disappointed about the lawn edgeing capability against hard landscaping using too much line too quickly. I haven't tried to refill the spool yet?

Never buy this with the humungously expensive battery, always buy separately like this then Google the battery - price for battery and charger can vary from £117 to £175!

The Bosch Advancedgrasscut 36v cordless grass trimmer is an excellent buy. Replaced my petrol strimmer. Lighter and less hassle. Already have the Bosch Cordless hedge trimmer so making good use of the battery swap technology.

Sturdy piece of garden kit for doing your strimming. It has an automatic line feeder so you don’t need to stop and start. Cuts through fairly thick and established nettles with no bother at all. Tough build quality but lite-weight as well. Easy and quick to recharge battery.

Q : How can you attach a harness to this grass cutter please? I know it doesn't have any clip on it for this, can I buy a clip to go on it so I can attach a harness?
A : Hi Yvonne, I have seen harnesses that come with a clip which you can mount onto the machine yourself, so this sounds like it might be the ideal solution for you but I'm afraid we don't stock any of that type so I can't verify how well they work, or recommend any in particular.
Q : Three questions, please! ... 1) I'm hoping to buy the 36v cordless strimmer and 36v hedge cutter with battery and charger. I believe the 18v range is compatible with other DIY power tools (drills etc) but is this also true of the 36v range? 2) What is the diameter of the replacement strimmer cord for the 36v model? Would I be able to use the 2.4mm Stihl cord I have at present? 3) What are the charging times of the 1.3Ah and 2.0Ah batteries (36v) and how long do they last between charges? Thank you!
A : Hi Ian, OK to answer your questions in order, firstly the 36v range is much smaller than the 18v range as it is more geared towards heavy duty garden power tools. As such there are no tools in the Bosch DIY range that also use these batteries currently, though as you say the 18v platform encompasses a wide range of both garden and DIY tools. Secondly, the AdvancedGrassCut 36 uses 1.6mm line so your existing line won't be suitable I'm afraid, although the correct line is fairly easy to come by - for example we stock a 24 metre roll of it on product ID 21006784. The last query is a bit tricky to answer - Bosch haven't published standard charging times for those batteries though at a very rough guess I'd say the 2ah battery will probably take around an hour to recharge and the 1.3ah a bit less than that. When it comes to runtime it's impossible to say really as it depends how hard the machine is working - for example if you're ploughing through thick, long grass the battery will get drained faster than if you're just doing light trimming, so it can vary quite a lot depending on the circumstances.
Q : Is this product compatible with the 36V 4.0Ah battery I got with my Rotak mower?
A : Hi Antony, yes- all of the current Bosch 36v garden tools use the same lithium ion batteries. Any battery in the range will work as long as its 36v

A : Hi Mary, yes - the same 36v lithium ion battery can be used in both the Bosch ADVANCEDGRASSCUT and ADVANCEDHEDGECUT 36 machines (as well as other cordless tools in the Bosch 36v Garden range)

A : Hi Stephen, I'm guessing you meant "compatible"? The Bosch 36v Green batteries are comparable with the Bosch 36v Blue (professional) batteries, but are not intended to be interchangeable, and the Green 36v range should only be used with the Green 36v batteries as can be seen in the "Accessories for this product" section of the product page
Q : Can this trimmer use Li-Ion battery 36V ABP136LZ 10INR18/65, as used by my defunct Qualcast CGT36LA1 trimmer?
A : Hi John, this product should only be used with genuine Bosch 36v Garden batteries as shown in the Suggested Accessories section on the product page
Q : Would this be suitable for cutting brambles?
A : I can confirm that this will cut brambles, however, you may be more suited to use a brush cutter.

A : The ADVANCEDGRASSCUT 36v weighs about 4kg and whilst it is suitable and can clear overgrown areas quickly and efficiently you may find a mains powered unit such as the ART 30 more suitable as it only weighs 2.75kg
