Bosch AHS 50-20 LI P4A 18v Cordless Hedge Trimmer 500mm
Battery AH Explained
The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.
Battery Voltage Explained
A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.
Bosch PowerForAll
The Bosch PowerForAll Tool range is a range of tools you can buy knowing that batteries are compatible with all tools in the range providing they are of the same voltage. eg 18v fits 18v, 12v (10.8v) fits 12v (10.8v) etc. Please also note that 10.8v is compatible with 12v & vice versa as it is just a name change. Indego Lawnmowers also use the PowerForAll 18v battery but require a cover plate to be removed if changing.
PowerForAll has many advantages not least the fact that once you have a tool with a few batteries then there is no need to buy the more expensive versions with battery & charger, you can just go ahead & buy the much cheaper no battery versions!
So remember PowerForAll signifies complete battery compatibility throughout the range. There is however, one caveat to this, some of the very first older chargers will not charge the very latest batteries & a battery charger upgrade will be required if you have a first generation charger. All batteries fit all tools however.
As of 2021 Bosch has licensed PowerForAll to other manufacturers whereby batteries between these manufacturers will be interchangeable.
Important
You cannot use Bosch Pro (Blue) batteries in either 12v or 18v DIY (Green) products.

Does the job well. Really easy to use and light to handle. Pleased with it. Thank you
Great product, lighter than expected, tackled our giant beech hedges with no problems. Impressed with the battery life too. Highly recommend.
I have conifer, laurel and holly hedges and previously hand pruned or struggled with a heavy electric hedge trimmer. This cordless trimmer has made the task much easier. I needed a wide tooth gap to deal with fairly thick branches but as light weight as possible. This weighs 2.5 kg with 2,0 Ah 18v battery attached and I can manage this and manoeuvre the trimmer easily. I particularly like the anti-clog feature which deals with some thicker branches well.
Timely delivery and excellent product based on existing.
Good price and quality. Will only cut thicker branches in a small section of the blade at the end. OK for medium cutting but not heavy work
Superb replacement to a different manufacturer's trimmer, light and powerful. Made hedge cutting so much less of a chore.
Practical product at a fair price
I have only used it once but it was easy to use and did everything I expected
My first hedge trimmer was the longest and most powerful model I could find. In retrospect, this was a mistake. I now see that convenience and manoeuvrability are much more important. The Bosch 50-20 gives me these advantages: Firstly, it is cordless so I don't need to worry about accidentally cutting the cable or having to find a 20 metre extension cord, and secondly it is much lighter and more easy to handle over long periods of use. The construction and build quality are good and the battery provides more than enough power to cut through the type of woody hedge in my garden. By the way, it is important to buy the kit version which includes a battery and charger UNLESS you already have a compatible 18V battery/charger for other Bosch tools. I recommend choosing the 2 x 2Ah battery option so that one battery can be charging whilst the other is in use. As far as safety is concerned, this model has a blade cover for safe storage, a hand guard to protect your hands and like all good trimmers, the machine requires both hands to be holding the handles for it to turn on. My final tip is to oil the blades once you finish cutting to keep them in the best condition.
Works really well, very happy easier to use than corded version
I am delighted with the product, it is light and makes easy work of the hedge. I wish I had bought this years ago
Good cut with good safety features. Getting the free promotion battery is a bit of a mission.
Quick delivery. Product works well, as described at a reasonable price.
Very pleased with cordless hedge Trimmer. Easy to use and light weight. Fast delivery and a reasonable price.
Good product and good service
Used once only so far but very pleased with the product. Easy to handle and cuts well. Good service and price from Tooled-Up
I purchased a cordless hedge trimmer last year. It was cheaper but I could have saved £50+ because it lacked power and since I have a very extensive hedge, where I use a corded hedge trimmer as well as the cordless one, it was not fit for purpose. The Bosch product is more powerful and has done an excellent job. It is also light and easy to use. I recommend it.
Does what it says on the box. It's a battery hedge trimmer. I have an evergreen hedge which it cuts just fine. It takes all Bosch 18v batteries, which I already have. It does just what I want, and it weighs less than 3kg as opposed to 10kg for my old petrol model. Very happy with the purchase.
No criticisms of the performance intended, I'm sure it's fine, but I haven't actually used it much yet as nothing is growing in the drought. I do like Bosch's use of what appears to be fairly high grade steel for its garden bladed tools, which makes them lighter and stronger in action. 18v motor is more than adequate for quite vigourous hedges and bushes and I would not advise the 36v version unless you have really dense growth and are physically quite strong!
Nice to be able to buy without battery, amazingly difficult to find, must be lots of sheds stuffed full of batteries that are never used.

Customer Questions & Answers
Q : Will the battery fit my old AHS 48Li charger?
A : The AHS 48 LI is quite an old machine now and while it was part of the Power4All system I am guessing you will have one of the first generation chargers. These older chargers will still work with some of the current generation of batteries but only the smaller ones such as 1.5ah and 2ah. This is because the larger capacities like 4ah didn't exist at the time and these batteries aren't compatible with the first generation chargers. So if you wanted to use the same capacity of battery that you were using with the AHS 48 Li there shouldn't be any problem with using your existing charger but if you wanted to use a battery with a larger capacity you might find you need to upgrade the charger as well.
Q : Will this hedgetrimmer work with a power4all 18v 1.5ah battery
A : Hi Michael, yes it will work with any Power4All 18v battery - just bear in mind that the runtime will be shorter with a 1.5ah version (compared to the stock batteries this machine is usually supplied with)
Q : Hi, will this hedge trimmer work with my 18v 2.0ah battery from my GSB 18v-LI professional drill? Regards John
A : Hi John, I'm afraid the batteries from the Blue (Professional) and Green (Garden/DIY) Bosch ranges are not cross compatible and this hedge trimmer can only be used with the Power4All batteries listed in the "Accessories.." section on the right of the product page
Q : How long does one battery charge last?
A : Hi Sue, I'm afraid there's no real answer to this question - firstly it is dependent on how hard the machine is working, and cutting through thicker branches and woody stems will drain the battery faster than light trimming of leafy material, but secondly there are a number of different batteries to choose from - the higher the ah rating, the longer the runtime you will get. Generally speaking, a 2.5ah battery will more than likely be all you need for most small to medium hedges while a 6ah battery would probably let you finish a large garden on a single charge.
Q : Does 2.5 kg weight include 2.5 ah battery? Thanks Steve
A : Hi Steve, according to Bosch 2.5kg is the weight with a 2.5ah battery installed, and the bare tool weighs 1.9 kg, so based on that it will weigh a bit more than 2.5kg if you are using it with one of the bigger batteries
Q : Will my Bosch lawn mower battery fit this trimmer
A : That depends what lawnmower you have - this is an 18v hedge trimmer so can only be used with 18v Bosch Lithium Ion Power4All (Garden/DIY) batteries. There were no Bosch 18v lawnmowers available until fairly recently, when the CITYMOWER 18 was released. Most cordless Bosch mowers use 36v batteries however, which are not compatible with this machine.
Q : Will this machine cut forsythia, brambles, fuchsia, all within one front hedge? About 30 feet in length and between 4 and 5 feet high. I have never had a cordless hedge trimmer before .
A : I can confirm that as long as you keep the blade clean and well oiled as to avoid the blade getting clogged up with sap and other plant residues then this trimmer should be suitable for branches and twigs up to 25mm in diameter.
