DeWalt DCM571 54v XR Cordless Brushless FLEXVOLT Brush Cutter and Grass Trimmer
Battery AH Explained
The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.
Battery Voltage Explained
A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.
DeWalt Flexvolt
DeWalt 54v Flexvolt is the new DeWalt dual voltage system. A 54v Tool can only use 54v batteries, however your new DeWalt 54v Flexvolt battery is fully compatible with all DeWalt 18v Li-ion Power Tools as it is capable of stepping into 18v mode for this purpose.
So upgrading to 54v means you can still make use of your 18v power tool range. 54v batteries are currently available in:
6ah (18v mode) / 2ah (54v mode)
9ah (18v mode) / 3ah (54v mode)
12ah (18v mode) / 4ah (54v mode)
The DeWalt Flexvolt system opens the door to types of tool becoming available in cordless that would never have been considered before such as Table Saws.

No more struggling with petrol, oil and pulling the starter cord in vain. Absolutely brilliant!
Easy to use, brush cutter very effective cutting brambles. Still to use as a stimmer. Battery life better than expected and fast recharge. Pleased had a solid shaft. Would have liked trigger a little more beefy otherwise 5 stars
Easy online system to order from Tooled Up and delivery was quick and in line with expectations. Product was easy to assemble and performance so far has been very good- so much easier on the ear than a petrol one. Haven’t used the blade yet but the strimmer works well and gets through heavy grass easily.
Prompt service. Quality product
Cracking bit of kit. I have been using it pretty hard since taking it out of the box and it has performed well, the battery life is impressive considering the power it chucks out. Very happy with my purchase!
One word.....Brilliant. Petrol? Never again. Already have 4 of the battery with my other Flexivolt equipment? so it was a logical purchase really. Usual Dewalt quality. Already used for "Brush Cutting" (No Problems) Haven't used the strimmer yet but expect excellence again.
Excellent cutting performance for battery operated tool. Quiet in operation. Battery charge time good. Operation time per charge good. Quality build. Expensive.
This is the first Battery operated grass trimer/ Brush cutter that I have purchased and I must say I am more than impressed. I have a boat load of Dewalt equipment with the same "Flexivolt" application so I know what they can do, as with most of the "Professional range" dewalt equipment it can work out quite expensive but worth it in the long run. This cutter / Trimmer is excellent, so I'm glad to say goodby to my Petrol versions, Its a joy to use, light and very effective, Top marks Dewalt.
great tool, great service
Very good, used it for cutting bushes and brambles, worked well one charge lasts about an hour. (depends how hard you're cutting)
This is my first cordless trimmer having been restricted for years it was sheer bliss cutting the cord. It’s the Flexvolt and it shows this beast is powerful it ripped through what I needed, I haven’t used the brush cutter attachment as of yet but the line cord is strong and doesn’t snap easily. As for using it the strap you get with the machine you need to use, it took me a little bit of playing to get it to the right length, but once you have the full weight is transferred to the shoulder you can manoeuvre the trimmer head very easily around going down to the grass and away. I’m pleased with my purchase and would definitely recommend this product well worth the money.
Great product. Big fan of Dewalt anyway
Great to not have to pull cord to start
Early days but seems very powerful and well designed. I've not used the brush cutter yet. Running time for heavy strimming seems to be at least 40 minutes. It's a pleasant change from the starting difficulties and mess associated with petrol equivalents. Batteries are expensive but all those which use the latest tech and have high capacity seem to be. How it will stand the test of time remains to be seen but so far so good (as I would expect at the price).
An excellent alternative to petrol powered machines with all the advantages of equivalent power but with added advantage that you are free from the associated inconvenience that comes with using and maintaining a petrol/oil mix engine. Batteries are charged quickly and provides 30 to 40 minutes of use in tackling tough jobs. Build quality is very good but in our opinion the operating switch could be better designed as it appears vulnerable to damage. Without experiencing the actual longevity of the machine value for money judgements are difficult to call but on the face of it, it seems to be well worth the price given that the FlexVolt battery system has many applications. We have hesitation in recommending this product, which I would expect to be the best of its kind currently available.
We use Dewalt for all our cordless power tools, so we didn't need to look anywhere else when we needed something tough and robust to clear the shrubs, brambles and weeds that had taken over valuable space around the edges of our yard. A great piece of equipment, good battery life, quick charging, easy to put together out of the box and to change the cutting line and blade. Tooled-Up offered the best price around, easy to order on line and very quick delivery. Very pleased all round with our purchase and service.
Best price I could find this product including 9Ah battery and charger. Product works aswell as any petrol equivalent I've used, only grumble is battery life, it's not great but it's also not terrible. Think 2x9Ah batteries is a must for this product.
Impressive power for sure. Reasonable weight too. Still early days but can't get used to angle of head and find strimmer cord too high due to large button underneath the reel. Shame head isn't adjustable like Makita.

Customer Questions & Answers
Q : Hi, is the power head the same as the one advertised at £303.95?
A : Hi Ron, no they are different machines. This model (the DCM571) can only be used as a brush cutter/line trimmer, whereas the DCMAS5713 is a split boom power head which with a suitable attachment can be turned into a line trimmer, brush cutter, hedge trimmer or pole saw (and potentially more if DeWalt release any additional attachments in the future)
Q : I have DeWalt 2 x 18v 5ah batteries and a DCB115 charger - will these batteries will power this 54v machine? I see the 54v batteries can be used with an 18v tool. Assuming the answer is negative - will my charger cope with 54v batteries or do I need a new charger as well?
A : Hi Tony, the Flexvolt system is backwards compatible only - 54v Flexvolt batteries can be used in DeWalt 18v tools but not the other way round, and they need to be charged in a Flexvolt compatible battery charger. So I suppose the short answer is your current equipment is not suitable - but a Flexvolt charger will be able to charge your existing batteries and a Flexvolt battery will be able to power any DeWalt 18v tools you already have.
Q : I currently have the 4.0ah 18v XR batteries will these work on this trimmer? Thanks
A : The 54v FlexVolt batteries will step down and work with 18V XR machines, however, the 18V XR batteries will not step up to work with 54v Flexvolt XR machines.
Q : Hi, could you help please I have a dewalt charger that says on the underside Output 3A 21V. Could I use this charger to charge a 54v battery? The battery charger has model no. DCB105 Thank you
A : The DCB105is a charger for 10.8V, 14.4V, 18V CR Slide Pack batteries. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the 54v batteries and you would need a 54v charger DCB118
Q : Can the head be turned to accommodate lawn edging
A : This trimmer is not an edger and the manual warns against rotating the head more than 30 degrees.
