LED Lenser H14.2 Focusing LED Head Torch

Had one for several months now. Used by my son on scout camps - he enjoys it and believes he is the envy of most of them who have cheap, dim head torches or ordinary hand torches.

Since my initial experience (review 31/3/14) and finding that i could not return this headlamp - read the ts & cs carefully - i decided to persevere with it. first thing to note is that the elastic headband is far too short. my friends who tried the lamp also found this to be the case. however, it seems that it was the tightness of the elastic that contributed most to my headache not the weight. replacing the headband with a much longer length of elastic means that i can now wear the lamp for a longer period before i develop a headache. i am also able to fit the lamp to my climbing helmet which isolates my head from the weight of the lamp. secondly, the lens is recessed into the body and its curved surfaces are difficult to clean and seem to attract dust. i'm working on fitting a flat, replaceable, cover that will protect the optics. thirdly, it is important to either remove the batteries or operate the travel lock when transporting the lamp in a bag as it is very easy for pressure from other objects to switch it on. on the plus side the beam is good at the expense of battery life. the zoom is easier to operate than on the h7. however, i'm not convinced that the benefit of the aa batteries used by the h14 and all my other lamps over the aaa batteries used by the h7 is sufficent make the h14 the better buy when compared with the h7. it is heavier and bulkier and the battery life is about the same. and, perhaps most important, the maximum brightness of the h14 is excessive for my caving purposes. i carry an m14 for specific illumination and use a head torch only for route finding which, in confined spaces, the h7 is perfect at.

Having spent some time deciding which one to buy decided on h14 2. Beats the h7 hands down worth every penny. Very well made and comfortable. So easy to use. Exceptional light. Think very carefully before buying this lamp as it is very heavy. 340g may not sound like much but after an hour i had such a bad headache that i was unable to continue using it.
