Generally well built the main frame is a sturdy feeling device. Using a brushless motor it is quiet and powerful, providing plenty of running time on a 4Ah battery. It comes in bits and requires assembly to use but that is very simple and easy to do however I am a little concerned that if either of the long and not very robust plastic squeeze triggers is broken it may not be possible to use the unit. Compared to the less expensive but slightly noisier lower spec models I think the higher extra cost unfortunately means it doesn’t get the full five stars for value.

Great piece of kit, although obviously not cheap. I already have a couple of 4.0ah batteries in the range so that's a big help. I got this to replace a stolen petrol strimmer that I was never in love with. It was VERY heavy and I found getting a good cut was tricky. And the bump head didn't seem to work well. The Ryobi is light as anything and that means it's MUCH easier to move around and get the right cutting angle. The bump head also works really well - it only needs a light tap. It's got plenty of power. I've chopped through some light brambles / thick weeds with ease. Reckon it would probably see off twigs / stalks up to about 10mm in diameter if it had to, but that would probably be around the limit with the supplied cord. A sharper cord might cope with a bit more than that. Reloading is a breeze - super easy to feed through the gap and then just wind up the mechanism. My 4.0ah battery seems to last for ages! Only used it a couple of times for a trim, rather than a proper going round everything, but I went round my 1/3 acre garden and only dropped 1 out of 4 bars each time. Probably 10/15 minutes of actual strimming time. Drops a star on value as it really is quite pricey, especially considering how expensive a high capacity battery is. Drops one for features as there's no adjustability on head angle and no way to attach a strap. Drop one on build quality as it can't compare to the tank-like build of some of the high end / petrol models. If you've got Ryobi batteries / tools already then I'd highly recommend. If not, then I'd still recommend, but it's not going to be cheap!
