It appears to be a very good machine, but three points may be made on its design. 1. an assembly problem. The two springs connecting the log base to the feet have hooks at each end, but i found it impossible to connect them at the bottom to the centre holes on the feet because of the smallness of the gap between the end of the hook and the body of the spring. I resolved this only by grinding off one end of each spring. 2. my logs are mostly sawn to 9 inches / 230mm, which is the best size for many woodburning stoves. This is shorter than the minimum length (300mm) for which the machine is designed, so a second log must be placed under the log to be split, or, better, a wood block may be wired onto the log support plate to increase its height. It seems that this problem could have been prevented by adding another lower pair of locating holes for the pins on the wedge assembly. 3. slightly larger wheels would have made it easier to move the machine from the shed to the place of work.
