Bahco Log Splitting Axe

This bahco splitter was purchased to replace a broken 4 tonne hydraulic splitter; best decision this year. this splitter flies through the logs, both seasoned and green, straight grain - managed to quarter a stack of 3 logs of 18 inches diameter, each 6 inches thick with single blows - and twisted, knotty logs. where the hydraulic splitter failed on dried knotty logs this bahco hand splitter is splitting these after 2 or 3 blows. it's hard work, but worth it, and less noisy than the electric motor on the hydraulic log buster. thoroughly recommended.

Just used it to split oak along with a chain saw and it did the job

I bought this axe on the recommendation of another reviewer. So far, it has not disappointed, although I am concerned as to what will happen when (or maybe if?) the head flies off the shaft, as it did with my previous splitting axe, a Roughneck. The manufacturer told me this was unmendable - hope this is not the case with this one. I have been splitting old, knotty beech - very tough, but it copes quite well and the balance is excellent,far better than the previous axe, which was very "head" end heavy. The grip is excellent, although gloves are necessary if the handle gets damp (in my case rain), but possibly sweat might have the same effect - it gets a bit slippy. All in all, a good quality product - so far. I have a very large woodburner to feed, so this axe will have a hard life - lets hope it can take it.

This is a bit more expensive than most log splitters, but its worth it and Bacho is a good manufacturer, its solid, VERY WELL BALANCED and takes a lot less effort than my old splitter, which had a wood handle and was pretty clumsy. This will last a life time, I ve been using it to split Elm, which is tough wood, but it seems to take less effort, fine when you ve hit the middle aged group !! The delivery to the North of Scotland from Tooled up was very quick.
