Battery AH Explained
The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.
Battery Voltage Explained
A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.
There are three main types of leaf blowers – Petrol, corded electric and cordless electric. As a general rule, Petrol blowers offer the most power at the expense of being heavier and noisier and than their electric counterparts, and typically come at a higher price.
Electric blowers are much quieter and more suitable for residential areas, and are usually powered by either lithium ion battery packs, or mains electricity.
Corded variants are cheaper to manufacture as they don’t require batteries or chargers, though their obvious limitation is the length of cord they are attached to.
Cordless variants offer much more freedom, though the amount of time they can be used for is dependent on the charge in their batteries. Higher amp-hour (ah) batteries will offer the most runtime, while higher voltage machines will provide more power.
Leaf blowers can also be effective at clearing snow, dust and dirt; however please bear in mind they are not designed to shift piles of wet leaves and much better results can be obtained by waiting for these to dry out first.

Good value product purchased to clear leaves in garden mainly. Does the job well and is really good quality. Also found it to be the best price anywhere. Excellent.
Birthday present for my dad - he loves it - delivered quickly- no complaints. Thank you
Very pleased with the product purchased the battery lasts about 30minutes I'm pleased to say, wish it lasted a little longer but not too worry. I will probably buy another battery from you later on. Well worth the money though.
Lightweight and effective leaf blower. Battery life could be longer but so far seems adequate Good quality product
Obviously the machine is plastic but that said it is sturdy and light. I just bought the bare machine because I already had a battery and charger for my chainsaw ( which I find quite good for garden work) so I use them and felt the power would be good. which it is. I picked up some leaves that were wet and it didn’t cope well, it blocked up! It is a vacuum not a mulcher and only has a quite small plastic impeller. Would benefit from a more robust one which could maybe break them up more. wearing neat fitting garden gloves will help the grip and controls! I haven’t had a good supply of dry leaves to give it a proper test. Maybe next year.
Bought this somewhat on the grounds that I already had the battery that came with the B&D strimmer, and that has been very satisfactory. Wanted something not *too" powerful, because it should pick up leaves and not gravel, and so far it seems good at this. Sadly it's been raining quite a lot around here, and this machine is not great at dealing with soaking wet leaves. The real test will come when we get a couple of dry days and we see how it performs at clearing drier leaves from around shrubs etc. So the 4* for features and performance are mainly because it's not had a real chance yet to demonstrate its abilities.
I bought this particular product as I already had a Black and Decker strimmer and a hedge trimmer that take the same battery and I have been delighted with them. This is equally good but unless you have a limited area to blow, having the extra batteries is extremely useful - the battery lasts at least 20 minutes. It is simple to put together and easy to change from a blower to a vacuum. I would certainly recommend.
I'm sure there are better products on the market at a higher price but this is ideal for my limited use, small garden and leaves/debris around two family graves. I didn't want a petrol one so this rechargeable one is good. Excellent value for money.
I purchased the Garden Vac a few weeks ago and it is absolutely fine and meets my requirements, it is easy to change from suction to blower, it very light and easy to use. Unfortunately it doesn’t have the power that a mains supply one has which is to be expected but equally so there are no trailing cables. I do certainly recommend it for use in an average size garden but not for industrial/commercial use. Phil North Lincolnshire
I have the strimmer so didn’t need a battery and charger. Good value for money therefore. Have used the blower and is good enough to do the job. Not enough leaves yet for mulcher so may get 5 stars. Quality is good just like the strimmer. Definitely recommend Black and Decker cordless products.
Very light and easy to use for collecting dry leaves, it does however not jam easy on wet leaves. I like the way it mulches the leaves so for a small machine collects plenty.
Great purchase & speedy delivery
Great purchase & speedy delivery
I have looked at dozens of leaf blowers/vacuums and this seemed the best. And it was. A wonderful machine. Great packing and quick delivery.
Brilliant. It’s so light, fits together easily and has controllable speeds and is comfortable to handle. Excellent buy.
Picks up well but doesn’t like damp leaves or dirt. Overall an excellent tool for a medium garden
Very pleased with purchase, kept well informed by seller, Very happy with Bargain Price...Thankyou Very Much, I’m one Very Happy Buyer! AAA+++
Unfortunately it got lost in transit twice. On eventually receiving I was expecting miracles. It goes together easily and works ok. Not as powerful as I’d hoped.
Not as powerful as a plug in or petrol model, but then we knew that. Does the job for me with dry leaves. The only problem I have with it, is that the air intake is on its left, so when you hold it in your right hand, as most of us do, It sucks your clothes in. That causes it to stop blowing. I find myself holding it at arm's length or in other uncomfortable positions so it keeps running.
Nice garden vacuum lightweight and appears up for the job.
From the same series and with the same battery, I own a hedge clipper and a strimmer. These have been good enough to render my mains electric versions redundant. In contrast, the battery blower is nothing like a mains version. It is light and will be useful for dry leaves on my large patio but does not have the power to do a major job on a lawn. It is a bit clumsy but easily converts from blow to suck.
Very difficult to assemble and poor instructions, however it performed well. Pleased to be able to buy without battery as I have two already. Doesn't vac sycamore seeds!
I brought this leaf vacuum hesitantly as I did not know if it was up to the job. However after using it at the weekend I can confirm that it works great. OK the battery life is not brilliant, as it needed charging half way through, but overall I was impressed.
Provided promptly at a good price
I wasn't expecting too much from this cordless garden vac TBH, but I wanted something I (or er indoors) could use quickly to clear the leaves from my large driveway/parking area, and this does the job. I already had the battery + charger from my B&D cordless strimmer so the price wasn't too bad. I also have a 3000w Spear & Jackson mains jobbie + a Chinese (eBay) petrol garden vac/blower for the BIG jobs but, this B&D cordless vac will come in very handy for the smaller jobs.
Bought for quick use of tidying the back garden. It is lightweight, easy to use, has good sucking power and very easy to empty the bag. Best garden vacuum I have used.
Perfect for what I need it for, light weight and easy to use.
Yet to try it out and compare it to the old one that's given me good service.
Excellent product very light and easy to use. Also at the best price + fast delivery.
A good product liked the ability to switch between blower and vac, very light easy to handle.
Sturdily built though lightweight machine with simple and quiet operation. Have only used vacuum and shredder function once and it dealt with deciduous leaves easily. Have not used blower function yet due to inclement weather.
Superb for small dry leaves (beech) on vacuum, not used blow.
Works well and is easy to use, a little awkward to empty but not too difficult.
The Balck and Decker GWC3600L 36v is a light weight cordless vacuum & leaf blower which also shreds. It can be used with one hand easily. To use it as a vacuum you fit the vacuum pipe and bag. To use it as a blower you remove the bag and fit a blower pipe and nozzle in its place. You also have to fit a ventilated unit where the vacuum pipe would be. All very simple. The shredder works well and the bag is sufficient for most light jobs. The nozzles can get into quite awkward nooks and crannies. I have a small garden at the front and back of the house. Even so I have bought a spare battery as it will just about last if on 'turbo' mode. The charger works well and the indicators on the battery showing battery life are worthwhile. Yes, it does get blocked from time to time especially if the leaves are large or wet. Turn it off. Remove the battery. Take the bag off, loosen the wedged detritus. Refit battery and blow it out. Dry leaves are fine. Whatever its drawbacks being cordless it works well for me.
I wanted a leaf blower that would also vacuum leaves off gravel. This does the job and chops the leaves so they can go in the compost.
Having previously bought the matching battery strimmer this was the obvious choice of leaf blower. I didn't fully appreciate the vacuum feature before purchase but it has proved to be very good at mulching smaller leaves. Has difficulty coping with larger, more substantial leaves such as laurel and whitebeam but great with oak, rowan beech etc. Can sometimes get blocked up with these bigger leaves but quite simple to blow them out again. It does manage individual wettish leaves but not so great if the grass is long and needs cut.
Read other reviews and still went ahead, I am glad that I did. Although it can get clogged with larger leaves, it is easy to clear. It is very light weight and much better than the large electric one we had. I am pleased with the battery life and find that I can re-charge very well while I am using the second battery. I am very pleased with the product. I have used it on patios, flower beds and grass and also where I have stone and it has done everything that I expected. Good value and worth buying compared to very expensive mountfield.
Appears to be working well and serving the purpose
Exactly what i wanted from the blower point of view. Would not recommend for the collecting side of things, even with a 36v it does get blocked very easily.
Great tool. So much better than cheaper options. The battery also fits my strimmer and vice versa. Having it cable-free is a huge advantage. I recommend to you.
Very pleased, easy to use and does the job!
This product is light and easy to handle. Very easy to assemble and is very efficient on clearing paved areas. Ideal for small/medium sized gardens. Lawn and soil areas need finishing off with a light raking. But extremely pleased with my purchase.
Excellent quality fantastic product lightweight and easy to set up and use would highly recommend this product.
Brilliant product lightweight and powerful would highly recommend this product
My first garden vac. Read all the crits and decided to spend a bit more. Not disappointed. Half hour to erect carefully by which time the battery was charged. Only sweaty point - taking off the fan cover to connect the vac - the wife sorted it with a bit of positive belief and delicate force! Was expecting a limited performance 1st time but no, got 20 min on turbo vac. it is not over heavy (i am elderly), not complicated and seems robust. I have a lot of shrub roses, lots of dropped petals in a small garden and this will help keep it looking its best. Expect it will do a good job blowing the autumn leaves. for tooled-up, thank you for a good service. Delivered next day timed to the hour.
Although the suppliers were prompt and very efficient the product itself was extremely disappointing. Having other Black and Decker 36V products I was expecting good performance. But the leaf vac was totally underpowered and had no effect on blowing or sucking damp or wet leaves. It worked reasonably on dry leaves in my garage but in the garden it was totally ineffective. the suppliers informed me (when I complained) that it 'wasn't designed for wet leaves' but what garden didn't have wet leaves? No reply yet!
It doesn’t work!!!! Very stiff and difficult to assemble. Swapping from blow to vac is more complicated than I had assumed from I had read. On/off switch very difficult to switch. Can that be safe? And, after all that effort getting it together, it doesn’t work, see my email to you. Very disillusioned.
Not enough power - disappointing
Not. Very. In. Impressed. Leaves. Get. Jammed
Works ok until used to vacuum a leaf. The right angle bend on the vacuum pipe causes blocking and it just does not pick up at all. This requires removing the pipe and battery for safety and then using something to remove the blockage. Not impressed and have gone back to log corded Flymo,
Good design, light and very manageable, however does not do the job, only picks up really small stuff and then when its switched off it all comes back down the tube. Would not recommend it.
Only used it once at the moment, I’m a little disappointed. It’s not as powerful as suggested even on Turbo. My old corded Flymo although big and cumbersome picks up so much better. Easier to handle however, I will persevere.
It took 2 weeks to long to get. It seem to work ok not as much power as I’d hoped. Seems to clog up easily, if you just do a few leaves at a time it’s better. Going straight into a large pile is know good. Battery seems to last a good 20 mins. All in all good value ??
This is a waste of money it is a complete waste of time trying to vacuum anything that is the slightest bit damp has it block's up the company say it is because the bottom of the tube that sucks up is a lot larger than than top of the tube so It inevitable that it will block up I asked why is there a blower to blow the leaves into a pile and then you have to spread the leaves out to suck them up (this is what tooled up told me to do) do not purchase this product because it doesn't do what it is supposed to be
Disappointed with the power of the blower. Damp leaves just laugh at it...and stay where they are. Good news is that I can use the battery & charger for other B&D tools.
This leaf vacuum/blower was a complete waste of money! I didn't read anything in the advertising that it only worked on dry leaves, although it did say that on the instruction leaflet once i had purchased the item. It is sitting in my shed as the leaves never dry up enough for it to work. I certainly would not recommend it at all. When i asked tooled-up for my money back, they refused as it says it only works on dry leaves.
The power of this unit is inadequate for gathering up big leaves or lots of leaves at ones. I later read reviews saying that it is not the type of garden vacuum that works with wet leaves. A better portable unit would probably be a one with a combustion engine but i like the electric version so i'm going to stick with this one.
Dreadful with wet leaves. machine gets clogged up. stay well clear of this one.
The first time i tried it it was a dry day and it worked really well. the next few times, the leaves were a bit wet and the machine got clogged up where the leaves should be getting mashed up. I had to stop frequently to clear it. i was thinking of sending it back because it does not do what it is supposed to. Not decided if it is worth the hassle. i would not reccommend it.
Customer Questions & Answers
Q : Please can you tell me how long it is currently taking for this item to be delivered/ Todays date is 24th May 2020.
A : Hi Gloria, currently we are experiencing unprecedented demand for home and garden products so there are long delays expected until things start to calm down but the ETA will be shown underneath the price on the website once you have chosen what battery option you need from the green drop down menu
Q : Hello, Does this blower vaccume and shred and comes with a collection bag? Also, does this work with the battery from Black & Decker GLC3630L 36v Cordless Telescopic Grass Trimmer 300mm? Thanks John
A : Hi John, yes - it is supplied with a bag and has an integrated shredder which provides a debris reduction ratio of 7:1. All the current Black & Decker 36v garden tools share battery compatibility (so that's the grass trimmer you mentioned, this blower vac, a hedge trimmer, chainsaw and a couple of lawn mowers) many thanks!
Q : Hi, I have a 36v strimmer in this product range. Does the same BL2036 battery fit this vacuum & blower?
A : I can confirm that the BL2036 battery is compatible with the GWC3600L
Q : Does this also include a charger for the battery?
A : I can confirm that if you select the kit with a battery and charger it will be supplied with a battery and charger. If you purchase the body only it will be supplied with no battery or charger.
Q : According to some of the customer reviews you maintain that this vac must only be used for dry leaves but there is no mention of this in the Black and Decker manual. What is the correct answer.
A : Wet leaves, in general, are much harder to work with as the additional water makes them heavier and they tend to stick and clump together which means battery-powered machines may struggle to suck them up and due to the water may cause clogging in the tubes and impeller. Petrol powered machines may cope better however they require regular maintenance and servicing and are a lot heavier.
Q : What is the nominal battery back up of the machine for using in garden to collect leafs
A : I can confirm that the only 36v battery currently available for this machine is BL20362 which is a 2ah 36v battery
Q : How long will the battery last using the vacuum on one full charge?
A : I have looked in to this for you and can confirm the battery does not have a certain usage time. The usage will depend on how hard the machine has to work therefore if the machine is sucking up larger items the machine will have to work harder meaning the battery is used more.
