Battery AH Explained
The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.
Battery Voltage Explained
A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.
The Bosch Power4all Tool range is a range of tools you can buy knowing that batteries are compatible with all tools in the range providing they are of the same voltage. eg 18v fits 18v, 12v (10.8v) fits 12v (10.8v) etc. Please also note that 10.8v is compatible with 12v & vice versa as it is just a name change. Indego Lawnmowers also use the Power4all 18v battery but require a cover plate to be removed if changing.
Power4all has many advantages not least the fact that once you have a tool with a few batteries then there is no need to buy the more expensive versions with battery & charger, you can just go ahead & buy the much cheaper no battery versions!
So remember Power4all signifies complete battery compatibility throughout the range. There is however, one caveat to this, some of the very first older chargers will not charge the very latest batteries & a battery charger upgrade will be required if you have a first generation charger. All batteries fit all tools however.
As of 2021 Bosch has licensed Power4all to other manufacturers whereby batteries between these manufacturers will be interchangeable.
Customer Questions & Answers
Q : Good afternoon is my charger from my PBS 1800 li-2 compatible with the advanced impact 18. It is dated 12/2014 ref 412E on the back and the booklet ref is AL 2204CV/2215CV. If not can you supply a suitable charger to use with my existing batteries thanks
A : Hi Geoff, by the looks of it you have one of the older chargers which isn't fully compatible with the current battery range. It will work fine if you are using it with batteries which were available back in 2014, but if you wanted to use some of the larger batteries which have been introduced since, it won't be able to charge them. If you notice on the product page for the AdvancedImpact 18 on our website there's an "Accessories" section - all of the battery chargers shown in there will be suitable for the complete range of past and current Power4All batteries if you decide you want to upgrade it.
Q : Should I need to apply external pressure to perform hammer drilling? I wasn't able to drill through a brick using hammer mode and masonry drill bit with MAX torque.
A : Hi Midhun, apologies if any of this sounds obvious but as long as the machine is in forwards mode, the drill bit is in good condition, and you're drilling a hole within its maximum rated capacity (11mm diameter in masonry) then hopefully you shouldn't have to do too much work yourself, although its worth pointing out that some bricks can be much harder than others, and these types of cordless hammer drills can take a long time to get through tougher materials, especially when compared to SDS machines which can deliver a much more powerful hammer action.
Q : Hi, I can see you have two versions of this drill for sale. Identical name, identical accessories, identical price, but one has orange switches on it, and the other has grey switches. What's the difference? Is one an earlier model?
A : Hi Tom, as you've noticed these two models are essentially identical. Bosch decided they were going to revamp their DIY (green) range with a green & grey colourscheme but shortly afterwards they scrapped this idea and decided to go back to green with red switches. So the green/grey version is slightly older but there's no difference other than the colour.
