Cordless tools have a number of advantages over their corded counterparts but without the ability to plug them into a dust extractor for synchronised startup, battery power does not always look like the most convenient choice. The Makita AWS (Auto Wireless Start) System was designed in response to this, enabling cordless tools to communicate wirelessly with dust extractors so that the extractor will switch on and off in conjunction with the power tool.
AWS uses Bluetooth technology and allows up to 10 AWS tools to be connected to one dust extractor at any one time. Once succesfully paired, it's just a case of connecting up the dust hose to whichever tool is being used. Without having to untangle multiple different power leads throughout the day, this speeds up efficiency and helps to prevent trip hazards in the work area, while also eliminating the frustation of snagged power cables interrupting your workflow.
Makita make both AWS Comapatible Power Tools and AWS Compatible Dust Extractors but it is also possible to use a conventional dust extractor with a power take off socket by plugging in a wireless adaptor.
