The R18PD5 is a cordless combi drill with an energy efficient brushless motor, meaning you can get more work done before needing to recharge or swap out the battery. Another notable feature of the R18PD5 is that instead of the traditional adjustable clutch it uses Ryobi's e-Torque technology - an automatic torque control system which is designed to ensure that screws are driven flush to the surface every time. This means the user doesn't need to make any adjustments when switching to a different size of screw; the e-Torque system automatically adjusts the amount of force needed to drive the fastener home. The R18PD5 is also well equipped for any drilling tasks around the home - hammer mode delivers the power to drill into tough materials like brick and masonry, and it can be switched off for standard rotary drilling into wood, metal and plastics. Gear 1 puts the drill into low speed for high torque applications and gear 2 switches it into high speed for rapid drilling. The variable speed trigger ensures that the user maintains control at all times, and a base mounted LED illuminates the work area for optimum visibility.
