Battery AH Explained
The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.
Battery Voltage Explained
A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.
Bosch PowerForAll
The Bosch PowerForAll Tool range is a range of tools you can buy knowing that batteries are compatible with all tools in the range providing they are of the same voltage. eg 18v fits 18v, 12v (10.8v) fits 12v (10.8v) etc. Please also note that 10.8v is compatible with 12v & vice versa as it is just a name change. Indego Lawnmowers also use the PowerForAll 18v battery but require a cover plate to be removed if changing.
PowerForAll has many advantages not least the fact that once you have a tool with a few batteries then there is no need to buy the more expensive versions with battery & charger, you can just go ahead & buy the much cheaper no battery versions!
So remember PowerForAll signifies complete battery compatibility throughout the range. There is however, one caveat to this, some of the very first older chargers will not charge the very latest batteries & a battery charger upgrade will be required if you have a first generation charger. All batteries fit all tools however.
As of 2021 Bosch has licensed PowerForAll to other manufacturers whereby batteries between these manufacturers will be interchangeable.
Important
You cannot use Bosch Pro (Blue) batteries in either 12v or 18v DIY (Green) products.
Pressure Washer Help
To help determine the type of pressure washer required it is important to consider the size of your cleaning task and level of duty, i.e. how big is the cleaning object and how often will you need to clean it? Below is an explanation of the two main types of pressure washer. Whilst bar pressure is important the overriding factor in cleaning power is the water flow rate. More water = better cleaning.
Jargon Buster:
• Bar or PSI: Bar is the most common measure of pressure. PSI = bar x 14.5.
• Bar (max): This is the pressure achieved when the machine is first turned on
• Bar (rated) pressure: This is the operating water pressure of the machine.
• Motor size (kW): Motor size indicates power providing the machine runs efficiently.
• Flow Rate (l/h): Higher flow rates enable you to clean large areas or objects faster
Did You Know:
Pressure Washers use up to 80% less water than garden hosepipes.
Pressure Washers are not subject to hosepipe bans if used for safety reasons, or if a suction hose is used to pull water from a harvested source. i.e. not the water mains. They are also not subject to a ban if used for commercial reasons, for example to maintain cleanliness, hygiene or company image.
Important things to remember when using your pressure washer:
• Always use an RCD when using electrical products in connection with water.
• Never use a non-return valve at the pressure washer connection to a hose pipe.
• Never drive over or lay items on high pressure hoses to avoid damage.
• Your water supply hose should be a min of several meters long and unwound from its reel.
• If you are using an extension lead, check that it is rated at min of 13 amps and fully unwound from its reel.

Very clever design suitable for a whole range of applications where mains water is not available or too far away to be convenient. We use it for washing small cars using much less water than a conventional pressure washer or hose pipe. Handy for watering the garden.
I live in an apartment with balconies and my car is parked several floors below me, so I have lusted after a solution to be able to pressure wash my car for a long time. The Fontus solves that issue by bringing its own power and water supplies. I really do like the built in tank. So to answer your first question, is it powerful enough? Well, the best way to describe it is to think of a mains pressure washer, but then imagine a really cheap version. Still works, but you need to hold it quite close or use a much tighter pattern to shift really tough stuff. But it’ll still do it. Lighter grime, bird poo etc will clear far more readily and this is where the Fontus excels - not bringing something back from the dead but doing the average car cleaning, window washing, deck cleaning stuff. Capacity, at 15 litres it’s pretty good. You will have to make multiple trips to refill it for any major task, but a tank will just about do a general rinse of a car. It’s also worth noting that you can hook up a hosepipe to it for unlimited supply. Battery life, I plumped for the 6ah battery and was glad I did, it gives me about 5 tanks worth of full power spraying which means I don’t have to stop the show to charge the battery up. The hose is a reasonable length, three or four metres at a guess. The portability of the unit means you can wheel it along with you as you go round your car or along a wall/path no problem, but don’t expect to be blasting your house roof from the top of a ladder whilst it’s sat on the ground. The gun has four patterns, wide flat, narrow flat, jet and shower. Narrow flat is what you’ll use 99% of the time, occasionally switching to jet to blast something particularly stubborn, wide flat is essentially gutless unless really up close and shower has zero pressure at all so great for soaking something right in front of the gun (but don’t expect hosepipe flow rates) without deading the battery, but not much else. Build quality…. This is probably the Fontus’ weak point. It’s ALL plastic. To be clear, it’s heavily fibre-reinforced plastic, but it is all plastic. The hose connections in particular feel flimsy although they probably aren’t so bad, and I think it will be actually quite robust as long as you don’t throw it around your shed, but it feels cheap and reinforcing those hose connections would just give you some more confidence. My only other gripe is that there is a large compartment in the front of the unit to store the gun and a brush attachment. I’ll be honest here, the gun can live in the pocket on the handle of the unit, the brush can live in my cupboard and I’ll take that entire compartment as an extra 5 litres of capacity, please. A few tips before my conclusion. First, when you unpack the unit there will be a grey rubber bung in the hosepipe connection - KEEP IT. Put it in when the unit is stored or it’ll dribble a little. Second tip, to disconnect the hose during or after use, you have to turn the unit off, squeeze the gun trigger to dump the pressure, then you can push and turn the fittings to release the hose. Seems obvious, but if you forget you’ve got little to no chance of getting it off. Thirdly, I’ve seen some complaints that the battery compartment door keeps popping open for some people. It’s possible to shut the door but only half latch it, and it will keep popping back open. If you give it a nice firm shove and make sure it’s fully latched it’ll stay shut no problem. So the conclusion then. It’s actually reasonably powerful considering we’re used to 1000+ watt mains pressure washers and this thing runs off a drill battery, not as powerful as a mains washer, but enough that you’ll be happy with it for most day to day tasks. Its plastic construction makes it light but feels (not necessarily is) flimsy in some critical areas, but is no doubt reliable and will last if cared for.
Brought this to wash my Trike, As I have no water supply or electric at my Garage. I was surprised that I used a full tank of water (15l) But that did soak the Trike to get as much dirt off before applying cleaner and rinsed all the cleaner off as well. Battery lasted well only used one of the 3 Charge lights, Pressure on full was just right for the job. Makes cleaning so much easier. If like me you have no water or electric near to Garage I highly recommend you get one of these.
Really pleased with this gen 2 low pressure cleaner and this was the best price on the internet
