Battery AH Explained
The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.
Battery Voltage Explained
A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.

l put the sander in to immediate use, preparing a wooden side gate prior to putting a preservative treatment on the gate. I fitted the newly charged battery on the sander, and I completed the job without having to change the battery. There is plenty of power in the sander and it coped brilliantly, as good as a mains sander but without the hassle of mains wires. Can thoroughly recommend the sander.

I chose Black and Decker because I already had a B&D 18V battery and charger and could purchase the sander alone. I've been using it to prepare wooden window frames prior to oiling. It has performed well and it has been very helpful to have a cordless machine. It is supplied with 3 mesh sanding sheets that work better than traditional papers, I wish this had been explained in the website.

Q : I noticed in a customer review that there was a question mark about the supply of sanding sheets for the Black and Decker BDCDS I8 detail sander including the finger attachment last year. You were waiting for a response from B&D has this been resolved yet as I am wanting to purchase one of these sanders from you? Thanks Martyn Hart
A : Good morning, Please do contact Black and decker directly regarding this as we have not had a response I am afraid.
Q : Please can you tell me which sanding sheets I order with this sander ? Tia
A : Hi Caroline, unfortunately it's still a bit of a mystery as I asked Black and Decker for more information on this earlier in the year and I've not heard anything back from them. We do sell a few "Mouse" sanding sheets (which you should see if you type that into the search bar on our website) - however none of them look like they will be perfect if you want to use the full functionality of the machine, for instance dust extraction. It's something we'll hopefully get loaded on at some point, and I'm sure they are available, but I'm afraid it doesn't appear that we stock any currently. I think you will be able to get some of the existing Mouse sheets to work one way or another so you could always try some and see how you get on, but they don't look like they will be fully optimised for this model.
Q : Hi, does the sander come with a carry case.
A : Hi Neil, you actually have to choose batteries, charger and case from the green drop down menu before you can add this item to your basket - however, I'm afraid none of the options come with a case at the present time.
Q : Does the sander come with a battery or you have to purchase that seperately?
A : Hi Farina, we sell this sander in a range of different battery options and you have to choose which kit you want from the green drop down menu before you can add it to your basket.
Q : I am considering buying this, do you sell sanding sheets to fit this ?
A : Hi Frank, I'm actually waiting to hear back from Black & Decker at the moment as I'm hoping they can confirm exactly which sanding sheets in their range will be suitable for the BDCDS18. If they're able to give me some more info I'll pass this information on.
Q : Would a Dewalt 18v or Bosch 18v battery fit this sander
A : Hi Brian, this machine can only be used with Black & Decker 18v lithium batteries. In fact power tool batteries in general are not interchangeable between brands, and sometimes they are not interchangeable between ranges within that brand (ie Bosch blue / Bosch green) - you can see all compatible batteries and chargers we stock for this tool in the Suggested Accessories section at the right of the product page.
Q : I have a B and D drill and A18e batteries will they fit this sander.
A : Unfortunately, the A18e battery is showing as a NiCD battery and would not be compatible with this sander which takes an 18V Li-Ion Battery.
Q : Can I use the 54V DUALVOLT battery that I got with my CLM5448PCB lawnmower with this sander ?
A : I can confirm that the Black and Decker Dual volt batteries (BL1554 and BL2554) would work with this sander
Q : Can use the same battery u use in a lithuum black and decker drill
A : I can confirm that the battery on this sander is compatible with the other Black and Decker 18v lithium ion power tools such as ASD184K and BDCHD18K
