Customer Questions & Answers
Q : Thank you very much for replying to my previous question regarding availability of replacement saw blades. I should have added that the saw I have is the 500W RS890K Autoselect Type 1. The blades I'm after are to saw through about 2 tons of tree branches all no more than 11cm thick. The wood blade that was included with the saw manages it but is very slow and struggles. I wondered whether a blade was available with larger teeth and a coarser cut. To date I've purchased replacement blades from two different on-line suppliers, both assured me they would fit the RS890K Autoselect Type 1 but neither do. Even the replacement blades purchased separately (to replace the small tooth, broad blade designed for sawing wood supplied when I bought the saw) don't fit. It's so frustrating !
A : Hi Steve, ah OK it sounds like you've got a lot of wood to cut up. The problem is there isn't a great deal of choice when it comes to blades for the Scorpion saw, which uses a unique/proprietary fitment. Have you considered using a standard reciprocating saw? For example the Black & Decker BES301. You would then have access to a much wider choice of blades for a whole range of different applications. For example the Bosch S1531L blades which we stock on product ID 21001555 are a popular choice for tree pruning applications. Perhaps an expensive initial outlay but might prove worthwhile in the long run?
Q : Hi. I've recently bought one of these and desperately need to obtain some spare blades for sawing branches from 4-9 inches thick. I thought a coarse cutting blade would work more efficiently. Can you tell me please if such a blade exist that will fit this model. Also, can you tell me please where I can purchase a replacement saw blade - the larger blade supplied by the manufacturer. I've tried purchasing these on line twice in the past couple of weeks and despite assurances the blades will fit my model, when they've arrived they don't ! Thanks
A : Hi Steve, as far as I'm aware all the currently available blades for this machine are listed in the "Accessories for this product" section of our product page. I don't know if this is the exact Scorpion saw you have though, as there was a previous model which had a slightly different blade fitting. So I'm guessing the blades you have ordered previously are actually intended for a different generation of scorpion saw. This one we have listed (the current model) is a 500W machine and I believe the older type was 400 watt.
Q : What diameter of tree branches can this saw cut through ?
A : With the larger blade installed you've got over 200mm of working length but it will depend on the condition of the branch you're sawing through really. Anything up to 100mm diameter shouldn't be a problem but the thicker and harder the wood is, the more the saw will get bogged down and overworked.
Q : What is the part number of the wood / plastic saw blade. I need this prt number to price up a blade so that I can order one. Please advise Thank you
A : Hi Desmond, I'm guessing you are referring to the X29962 blade on product ID 21006320? In any case, you can view all the available blades we stock for this machine in the "Accessories for this Product" section on the right of the product page - each one has the model number in the title for ease of identification
Q : Can it plug into a 120 outlet
A : Hi Mary, this tool is only suitable for use on the standard UK domestic supply
Q : Is there a tungsten blade to fit so it will cut thermalite blocks.
A : Unfortunately, there does not appear to be any blades suitable for your needs and you may be better looking at getting a Reciprocating Saw such as the Bosch PSA 700 E which would have a wider range of blades
Q : What thickness of hard wood log will it cut through comfortably. I have just bought a wood burn ing stove and need something handy.
A : I can confirm that when combined with the X29961 blade which is designed for hardwood the saw has a working length of 200mm and should handle branches up to 100mm without any issue.
Q : Do you need oil for this
A : unlike a chainsaw, this reciprocating saw does not require oil
Q : How heavy is this?
A : I can confirm that the RS890K is about 2.7kg in weight.
