I bought this saw for convenience and quick jobs around the garden (i have a lot of trees!).So far, it does everything really well, is light to use and is immediately ready when you want it. it does seem to get through oil quickly but it is early days. i would recommend this to anyone who wants it for light jobs (20cm trunk is biggest so far and no probs). another benefit i didn't think of before i bought is that it switches off each time you let go (rather than idle like a petrol). therefore it is much quieter and safer.

Substantial construction and quiet, so very handy when you do not want to disturb neighbours on a sunday morning. Chain speed not that fast, but helps to cut down the safety risk from kickbacks or chain break, though you should still wear at least a class 1 set of protective trousers, boots, gloves and helmet. Good in tight spaces and no trailing cable to snag or cut as with a mains powered saw. Need to keep an eye on the chain oil level as it seems to go down fairly quickly, the reservoir is a bit small. If you have lots of work to do, buy 5 litres of good quality bio degradable oil instead of paying more for small bottles. At least you do not have the added cost and faff of mixing petrol and 2 stroke oil. Ideal for use inside a shed or garage as there are no exhaust fumes or petrol fire risks. I now have four bosch 36v tools, two bought as body only, and find the cross compatibility very useful in maximising the use of fewer batteries across more equipment. Beats a petrol chainsaw hands down for garden and domestic maintenance.

For someone who uses petrol chainsaws on a daily basis just for cutting through oak i must admit that i wasnt expecting miracles from a battery powered saw. However bosch have converted me, the power and speed, which lets face it is what makes a chainsaw, produced from the 36v battery is amazing. I know that the chain is never as good as when its new but it cut through 8inch oak like butter taking only 6 seconds, only 2 seconds slower than my big petrol powered husky.. Amazed, no slowing of speed and a lovely clean cut.. Batteries last well and its so quiet and instant.. If you need a good saw for big jobs and 10inches is a big enough bar then this is the one,, at last.

One reviewer mentioned the plastic chain tensioner being unlikely to last. Mine failed very quickly indeed. In fact I could not see how this tensioner design could last and this for Bosch amazed me. I did no more than 4/5 cuts and the mechanism failed and caused damage. Item returned and replaced quickly so good customer service. I want this useful machine to succeed and hope the last failure was a one off. I will give it a good run and report.

I bought this tool because i needed a cordless chainsaw and this is a bosch. I have previously had good experiences with bosch tools. it's early days, but this particular bosch tool concerns me. I just can't see it lasting more than a few weeks before something important breaking. so far, it's done good work. It's cut some big branches, and one or two sizeable trunks, and the battery seems to last at least as long as i would expect. And it's easy to use. but why does the mechanism keep clogging up with sawdust and bits of leaf that happen to get onto the chain, such that the chain actually stops going round? This isn't something that happens with my stihl petrol chainsaw. And i just can't see the (easy to use) plastic chain tightening mechanism lasting. i do expect better at this 'price point'.
