Draper DMSD Distance Ultrasonic Measure and Stud Detector

The Draper DMSD is a dual-function ultrasonic distance measure and stud detector designed for accurate measurements and locating timber studs behind plasterboard. This versatile tool combines two essential functions in one compact unit, making it ideal for carpenters, electricians, and general contractors working on first and second fix installations.

The ultrasonic measuring system provides reliable distance readings from 600mm up to 15 metres (2-50ft), with results displayed on a clear LCD screen. The built-in calculator adds practical functionality by automatically working out areas and volumes, plus offering convenient metre to feet conversions for those working with imperial measurements. A Class IIA laser pointer helps ensure accurate targeting when taking measurements.

The integrated stud detection function locates timber studs up to 19mm deep behind wall surfaces, with an audio alert confirming when a stud is detected. This makes it particularly useful for safely fixing wall-mounted fittings, running cables, or installing fixtures where avoiding or locating studs is essential. The unit requires a PP3 battery for operation, which is sold separately.
