Q : If I keep my magnetic tacking hammer in a metal toolbox will it lose its magnetic properties?
A : Hi Ali, as far as I know a metal tool box in itself shouldn't present any problems but it is usually recommended to keep these kinds of magnetic hammers stored separately to your other tools, and especially any that also have magnets in them.
Q : I just received my magnetic tack hammer and was expecting the flat striking face of the hammer to be magnetized. I cannot understand what supports the tack in the magnetized slotted end, such that striking the tack into the wood, the tack can be hit with adequate force to imbed a little into the wood. What am I missing? . It appears not to be the product I was expecting.
A : Hi Barry, I'm not sure on your exact application but this style of hammer was developed for putting tacks into upholstery - these upholstery tacks are small and sharp, with fairly broad flat heads, and as such they should sit flat on the magnetised end (which was originally split to house both poles of a magnet). Once started off you would then switch over to the striking face to fully drive them home.
