The smart splitter is a much safer and more efficient alternative to the hammer and wedge or splitting axe. My problem was that i had some old very knotty tree rings with the grain curving in different directions which had defeated a conventional wedge and hammer/splitting axe. With the smart splitter you can hold odd shaped logs in such a way that you always split along the grain. Just a quick couple of taps with the weight to get it started and hold it in position ready for some serious hammering. I sometimes had to reposition the wedge to exploit cracks from different directions but it did the job. Another thing is no more stuck wedges! The smart splitter weight can be slid up the guide rod to hit the stop nut at the end and knock the wedge out! this tool design is a case of brains over brawn - highly recommended.

This products is well-designed and of high-quality manufacture. It is straightforward to assemble and easy to use. i bought it because arthritis in my wrists was making it difficult for me to use an axe and maul - with the smartsplitter i am able to split logs far faster than i could manage with an axe or maul, and the results are more controllable. Large logs that would present problems using even a maul can be split earily by simply by repeatedly dropping the weight. highly recommended.

Fantastic!! Used it to-day for the first time. Had to get the chainsaw out to cut up a base from a felled tree, after that though the set-up was a doddle and after a couple of hours of using the logsplitter i had a wood shed (large) 3/4 full, with no bad back due to swinging an axe. Mint!!! by tudor
