The Makita DML816 is a cordless LED flashlight designed for professional use on site, powered by any Makita 18v LXT lithium-ion battery — making it an ideal addition to any existing LXT tool setup.
Fitted with eighteen LEDs behind a light-diffusing lens, the DML816 delivers broad, glare-reduced illumination across three brightness settings: 500, 250, and 100 lumens. This versatility makes it well suited to a range of working conditions, from detailed close-up tasks to illuminating a larger workspace.
The articulating head folds up and down through seven positive stops and rotates left to right, allowing the beam to be directed precisely where it's needed. A large retractable hook provides a practical hands-free option, supporting suspension from steel pipes up to 50mm in diameter — useful for electricians, plumbers, and general contractors working in confined or overhead spaces.
Runtime is a genuine strength of this unit. When paired with a BL1860B battery, the DML816 delivers up to 75 hours in low mode, 34 hours in medium, and 17 hours in high — minimising interruptions during long working days. A battery capacity warning system helps avoid unexpected power loss on site.

The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.

A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance.
