Makita DWD181 18v LXT Cordless Wall Scanner

The Makita DWD181 is a professional cordless wall scanner designed for accurate detection of hidden materials behind walls and in concrete. Compatible with any Makita 14.4V or 18V LXT lithium-ion battery, this advanced scanning tool features a large 4.1-inch full-colour display that provides detailed visual feedback when locating metal objects, plastic pipes, wood studs and live electrical cables. The integrated laser guide emits a vertical line to indicate the exact centre of the sensor, ensuring precise marking of detected objects with an accuracy of +/- 5mm.

Built for demanding site conditions, the DWD181 offers multiple scene modes including settings for dry concrete, wet concrete, partition walls and a radar view mode, allowing tradespeople to adapt to different materials and moisture conditions. The unit alerts operators both visually on screen and with an audible signal when objects are detected. With an impressive maximum detection depth of 180mm for metal in concrete and 120mm for plastic pipes, this scanner is ideal for electricians, plumbers and general contractors carrying out first fix work, installation projects or renovation tasks where avoiding buried services is critical.

The IP54-rated housing provides protection against dust and water ingress, making it suitable for use in challenging construction environments. An integrated LED worklight improves visibility when working in poorly lit areas, whilst the multi-detection mode can display up to three detection results simultaneously on a split screen. With a runtime of up to 28 hours using an 18V 6.0Ah battery, the DWD181 delivers professional performance throughout the working day.

Battery AH Explained

The best way to describe battery amp hour is that this is effectively the size of your fuel tank, the more amp hours your battery has then the longer the battery will last between charges. More amp hours does not increase the power of a given tool.

Battery Voltage Explained

A tool with a higher voltage than another is a bit like choosing an engine in a car, the higher voltage will generally mean higher power & performance. As with cars though a bigger engine does not always translate to better performance so it is important to compare the specifications of tools at different voltages between different manufacturers.
