Record 05 Jack Plane

The Record 05 Jack Plane is a traditional bench plane designed for the initial preparation of rough timber in both hardwood and softwood applications. Manufactured by IRWIN Record to exacting standards, this No.5 pattern plane features a 355mm (14in) length base that bridges across undulations in rough timber surfaces which shorter planes would tend to follow.

Built with a cast iron base, frog and lever cap, this jack plane delivers the stability and precision demanded by professional joiners and cabinetmakers. The 50mm (2in) tungsten vanadium cutter blade provides exceptional edge retention and cutting performance, whilst the accurately machined blade setting mechanism with traditional brass adjusting nut allows for precise depth adjustment.

Available in two variants to suit different preferences and budgets: the REC05 with traditional wooden handles or the RECSP5 economy version with practical plastic handles. Both configurations feature full adjustment capabilities for finely controlled cutting depths, making them ideal for dimensioning rough-sawn timber, flattening boards and preparing surfaces before smoothing with a shorter plane.
