Customer Questions & Answers
Q : Can Ronseal coloured wax be used on previously varnished pine to reduce the orange tone of the wood or to darken the colour of the wood a little so it looks more neutral and aged? Or do you have to strip the varnish first. If not whats the best product to neutralise the warm orange tones of varnished pine. look forward to hearing from you Gavin
A : Hi Gavin, Ronseal's instructions state: 1. Use white spirit and a cloth to get rid of any old wax, grease or oil. 2. Sand the surface with 120 grit sandpaper and wipe away the dust once it’s settled. 3. Leave it to dry before waxing. So it sounds like for best results you would ideally want to remove any existing varnish - I suspect it won't adhere very well unless it's going onto bare wood.
