I am a collector of ryobi equipment and I already have a 240v brushcutter, however, I needed to cut a pathway through general weeds, long grass, Himalayan balsam and brambles in a field to gain access to the back of my hedge. I can say that the 18volt version does have a designed in soft motor start, but it was quickly spinning at speed . Whilst the 240v may have a bigger kick, the 18v cordless was a lot easier to deploy and coped very well with the job at hand. If anyone finds it vibrates when starting to spin up, please make sure you've mounted the blade correctly. On both of my brushcutters I had the blade incorrectly sat on the spindle, Due to it having moved as I was using the bar to lock the spindle head still, and accidentally pushed the blade out of position. Whilst both brushcutters came with a strimmer head unit, I haven't used them as I have another ryobi 18v strimmer.

Absolutely brilliant if you find holding the heavier petrol brush cutters difficult. I love these Ryobi tools, I have a few now in my collection! Love the flexibility of using either the strimmer or the brush cutter blade supplied.

For a battery bush cutter it's surprisingly powerful, Good battery life and comfortable to use with the chest harness.

Charity wanted this for heavy brush/ivy work. Tried on light stuff with metal cutter and it was perfect, however once we moved to thick bracken and ivy the battery gave up after around 8-10 minutes so way below the guideline of 24 minutes. So a nice bit of kit but very poor performance for heavy work. In the end, rolling the ivy back by hand then digging the exposed roots did the job! Good job God gave us hands!

As this product is battery powered and not petrol, I didn't expect it to be as powerful. Consequently I wasn't disappointed unlike some reviewers. It still packs enough power to do the sorts of jobs I require of it. It can be configured as a brush cutter or strimmer. The brush cutter can cope with long grass, thistles similar weedy vegetation and brambles but would struggle with tougher woody growth. My 4.0AH battery pack doesn't last very long before needing a recharge (30 mins or thereabouts) so ideally you need several batteries on the go for lengthier jobs. The soft start is a nice feature avoiding unnecessary wear and tear on the drive mechanism.

Customer Questions & Answers

Jon asked on 16/08/2021

Q : can any one tell me the fitting hole diameter in the tri arc blade used on the ryobi one brush cutter? I am looking to purchase a wire brush attachment for my ryobi brush cutter to keep brick paving joints free of moss, if any one has any experience of these wire brush attachments love to hear of your experience using them

Can you answer this question? Yes I can

Kevin Bolton asked on 18/01/2021

Q : This brush cutter is no longer available from Ryobi Australia (which is for for the course with Ryobi 'down-under' as they keep deleting tools in the one+ range that are still available in the US and EU), so my question is... do you ship to Australia?

TooledUp answered on 18/01/2021

A : Hi Kevin, I'm afraid we are only able to ship within the UK and Ireland and can't send goods overseas. Ryobi's global stock positioning is a bit of a mystery sometimes - we also get lots of enquiries from the US about One+ tools that aren't available over there. Anyway hopefully you can find one and good luck :)

Richard Stephenson asked on 07/11/2020

Q : I have the full range of Ryobi expandit tools.I would like to switch from petrol to electric power. Which poer unit do I buy?

TooledUp answered on 09/11/2020

A : Hi Richard, I'm afraid we don't currently stock any Ryobi electric Expand-it power heads. We used to sell the RPH11000E but Ryobi have since discontinued that model and there hasn't been a replacement so far.

Mr Errol J Fleming asked on 16/09/2020

Q : Does this item come with a battery charger? and, if I was to purchase a second battery as backup, is any particular one recommended?

TooledUp answered on 16/09/2020

A : We sell this in a choice of different options, either with or without batteries, but all the versions with a battery also include a charger - to see the different options you just need to select from the green drop down menu at top right of the product page. The OBC1820B will work with any of the Ryobi ONE+ batteries shown in the "Accessories" section, and the only real difference between them is the amount of charge they hold - however you'd probably find that for a brush cutter a 2ah battery is about the minimum you'd want for typical usage. The higher the ah rating, the longer you will be able to keep going between charges.

Jamie Horwood asked on 14/09/2020

Q : Hello. We are interested in a tool that can be used to cut weeds out of crevices or gaps inbetween our large flagged driveway without damaging the flags ? The gaps range from close to wide ish. We are currently using a electric weed cutter with steel wire mesh but it is not very good.

TooledUp answered on 14/09/2020

A : Hi Jamie, you have a few options really - I don't know if you've tried a traditional patio knife like the Gardena Combisystem one on product ID 21031108? If you go into the main Patio Knives parent category you'll be able to see all the alternative options we stock - however, the advantage of tools like those from the Gardena Combisystem range is that you can also swap the head out for a patio cleaning wire brush like the one on product ID 21011577. If you're specifically looking for a power tool there have been a few released for this kind of job, such as the Einhell GE-CC 18 LI on product ID 21031072, though there will be more risk of damaging paving surfaces if you choose one of these heavier duty options.

Charli asked on 10/05/2020

Q : Does the cutting head rotate for edging borders etc?

TooledUp answered on 10/05/2020

A : Hi Charli, I'm afraid the OBC1820B has a fixed head which is not designed to be rotated

colin asked on 18/08/2019

Q : can you fit the expand it range by Ryobi to Ryobi OBC 1820B Thanks

TooledUp answered on 19/08/2019

A : Unfortunately, I can confirm that it is not part of the expand-it range.
