Took a bit longer to put together than I thought it would, but these things are always a bit fiddly. Put it together and tried it out on first dry after it was delivered. Worked really well on a patch of nettles and bramble. However when it came to pulling it apart to store it, I couldn't. Left it till next day and it came apart easily, obviously you have to let it cool down or something. Anyway, a great piece of kit and would recommend it.

Lots of power. Fairly easy to switch the blade for the strimmer. The strimmer line is a bit thin and breaks a bit too easily compared to the line I used in my previous strimmer. The assembly instructions could be clearer as well

Only used it once to cut heavy growth round base of a tree, seemed to perform ok, haven't used it enough to give a proper account though!

I find that the Ryobi electric brush cutter is much better to use than petrol brush cutters as it is quiter and has much less vibration . It is also lighter which is most usefull on my undulating garden .

Q : Our newly laid lawn butts right up against wooden sleepers. We need to strim or brush cut all around the edge of the lawn. The line of the first strimmer we bought broke immediately so we wondered if metal blades would work better. Could I please ask your advice on whether the Ryobi RBC 1226 sounds like the tool for the job or whether another model or design would be more appropriate? Thanks, Pat Haworth.
A : Hi Pat, unfortunately a brush cutter could actually be quite dangerous in this kind of application - if the blade strikes a solid object it can't cut through, it may rebound violently, causing the operator to lose control of the tool. Therefore I would recommend looking at a heavier duty grade of trimming line as a first port of call - for instance the Black & Decker GL9035 on Product ID 21003618 can be used with thicker HD lines - but note that hard surfaces will wear all line down to some degree. If you suspect this will continue to be a problem you might want to consider a cordless grass shear like the Gardena CLASSICCUT LI on Product ID 21028128 - many of these tools can be used with wheel attachments for a comfortable upright working posture and they have metal blades but a much gentler operation which means they can be used safely up against solid objects like walls and fences without danger of kickback
Q : Can I purchase a stronger thicker cord to fit my existing spool or do I buy a replacement spool case?
A : Hi Martin, you should be able to refill the included spool without too much difficulty but bear in mind that the thicker and heavier the line, the more stress it will place on the motor. It is best to stick to the manufacturers guidelines for recommended line diameters to ensure optimum performance and prolong the life of the machine
Q : Does this come ready to use or do I need additional charger/ battery etc?
A : Hi Gary, the RBC1226 is a corded electric tool so it does not need a battery, just a mains power socket to plug it into (though you may need a suitable extension lead depending how far away from this plug socket you'll be using it)
